Ibi is a stand alone storage device which was originally designed to be a smart photo manager. It can collect photos from your social media accounts and store them locally. It does a few other things as well, see the product page for more details.

The BIG NEWS is they just released a new setting which allows Local network access which basically makes this thing a network-attached storage (NAS) device. I just enabled the setting and was able to access it from my windows network.

Here is the announcement:

We're also introducing a new Local network access feature. When this feature is enabled using the new ibi Dashboard, you'll be able to easily drag and drop files to and from your ibi device. You'll also be able to open and save files on the device directly from your PC and Mac applications.

You can enable this new feature by signing in to https://ibi.sandisk.com, going to Settings, clicking on your device's name, and then Manage Device.

For more detailed instructions on how to enable local network access, please visit our support article.

Anyone have issues setting it up? I can't get past the blinking white light after plugging it in. The app instructs you to try again and when nothing happens, it tells you to contact support.

Honestly sounds like HDDs are giving out on these. Likely due to shipping...

I just got one of these for $25. Getting it to connect took several tries and wasn't easy.
BUT its working now! And it seems to be an OK device.

Got mine up and running. I swapped the 1TB hard drive out with one I pulled from a 5tb Seagate portable (a tall 15mm 2.5" 5TB drive, fit perfectly). Luckily WD did not pull any shenanigans with the HDDs in these things, they are simple SATA drives. If you are looking to shuck a 1tb drive, these are good to go.

Cloned the drive to the new 5TB, used a partition editor to expand the largest (900 odd gb ext4 partition) to fill the rest of the space. I used GParted under Linux to do this, but I am sure there are Windows tools to do this too. Put it back together with the 5tb installed and all of the space is visible and usable. Quite a bit louder and warmer with the larger drive. Google does show that these things did come with 5tb larger drives like the one I put in in the past.

I ordered one, dead on arrival. SanDisk support is absolute trash. After a week of back and forth, they sent me a shipping label. Once they receive it, they will ship the new one in 7 - 10 days. I should have just asked for a refund.
