Fantastic game, but a caveat: It's not great unless all the players are pretty seasoned board gamers. After the game flips, one player becomes the villain and they typically have rules and a win condition that they can't share with others. If that ends up being the one who doesnt really follow what's going on, the game kinda goes off the rails.

If we had a third person we wouldn't NEED a board game!

I dunno. I feel in love with it when friends brought it over. 2 had played, 2 had never played board games really. All had fun.

It's a great game as long people understand it's part board game, part roleplaying or mafia/werewolf style game. (Only sometimes is it like mafia where the traitor is secret. Usually you know who it is.) The first time I played I happened to be playing a the oldest character you can pick. we randomly rolled some curse that aged every character by X years, and I basically died immediately. LOL!

(I've played the game many times since and the age on the character rarely makes a big difference, but the game can do things like that.

If someone is new or not comfortable being the traitor I usually have someone switch characters with the traitor. There's no perfect solution to the problem of course.

I'd disagree with this. I'm sure it's based on how complex the haunt is, but we had a newbie end up being the traitor, and she understood that all she had to do was kill us before a specific time and had minions she could control to help her out. It was a blast. If anything, after one round, everyone more or less gets what they're able/supposed to do. To me, the game is less about winning and more just trying not to die and enjoying the randomness of it all. And to the point above, it states in the rules that you can switch out the traitor.

Is this better than 2nd edition? I'm not sure it's really worth another copy if it hasn't changed much .

My understanding is the 3rd edition was actually edited and play-tested before being printed. As such the rules issues (of which there are many in 2nd ed) are mostly fixed. Other than that, its the same game but with different art.

Artwork and character figures are better.

They've slimmed down all the tokens so there aren't as many.

They streamlined rules.

They actually added backstory to each mission so you actually have a reason to be wandering the house each time.

Some other stuff.

Since the figures are not diverse nor inclusive, I do not feel represented. I will pass on this edition due to this.

Fun game BUT some of stories (in the older versions) don't work well.

I turned out to be the traitor on my first playthrough and that unfortunately wasn't triggered until we were well into the game. So the other characters were "leveled up" while my character's cards were more or less rendered useless. Without a time or turn limit, it became a very one-sided game.
