Didn't see this posted, if it has sorry about that.

Emotiva extended their 10% off of $100(WINTER10)/20% off of $1,999(SNOW20) deal.

If someone is looking for an external amplifier to drive a 9 channel setup their XPA-9 amp comes out to $1759 before taxes.
The configuration for this is:
5 X 300 high powered single-channel Modules
2 X 65 stereo Modules

Emotiva makes some pretty good amps and this would be plenty powerful for most setups.

Figured I would bring this to light in case someone was in the market and pointing out a good deal IMO.

Anyone using last generation dolby 5.1 Reveiver as a 5 channel amp? Many did came with 5.1 rca input for external processor.

Emotiva measures from mediocre to just plain bad. But don't worry, you get to overpay for the poor performance.

Distortion, timing errors, and jitter: oh my!

There is no magic in sound reproduction, but there are a lot of ripoffs.
Did you just pull this out of your butt?

Unpopular opinion: Instead of 9 channels driving different types of speakers all over the room to result in the audio equivalent of "explosion at the spaghetti factory," ESPECIALLY when there's so little content in true 7.1 (or whatever), go with a really nicely matched 5.1 system.

If you have the space, adding in inexpensive Atmos speakers is a somewhat nice upgrade. They really don't need to timbre match the rest of the system (like the rears). Very little information goes to those channels. I think there's diminishing returns after more than 5.2.2 (two subs, though some rooms really prefer three).

It really boils down to personal preference and what source gear you are using. Most basic AVRs would benefit from external amplification. Personally, I would look for a quality amp to improve the front end and let an AVR run the surrounds as the next step. Why pay $$$ just to settle for a mediocre 65wpc for 4 of the channels?....and good luck getting the actual rated wpc out of the other channels. Emotiva's marketing approach is to hide an underperforming amp behind a nice faceplate and slap a hefty price tag on it to fool people into thinking it is quality.

I upgraded from 7.2 to 7.2.4 Atmos recently and switched from an ICE amp based AVR with external amplification for the fronts to a separate pre/pro. If you have a good sized room, quality gear and pay attention to proper speaker placement, the upgrade to Atmos is absolutely worth it.

How about Outlaw?

Outlaw mono block amps are outstanding.

I have 3 for LRC.

The one thing I will tell everyone is don't listen to anyone and listen with your ears. From Emotiva, Outlaw, McIntosh to Monoprice I have listened to and bought a lot of equipment in 53 years.

One thing is some were 1/2 right and others 1/2 wrong 😁🙄.

Return on investment is decided with your ears not opinions. Not even mine. Specs are not measured equal by all. There are a few reviewers on YouTube I would watch. Cheap audio man and Stephen Gutenberg. Not entertaining, informative and opinionated with physical stats.

Merry Xmas all.

This is a pretty ignorant take. The Klipsch Reference Premiere stuff is pretty good-surprisingly so. But most importantly they are VERY sensitive and take very little power to drive cleanly.

Agreed.
