Sugar is a somewhat common ingredient in tomato sauces. Personally. I don't care for the sweet sauce, but many do.

Thanks for pointing that out. Was going to pull the trigger thinking these were just tomatoes with spices. Adding sugar is ridiculous. Probably the easy thing to add at home if you like it sweet.

There are 4grams of naturally occurring sugar in 1 cup of tomatoes. This can is just under 2 cups and has 7grams. It is not all added sugar. Sugar is probably just part of the seasonings they add but since it is much heavier than onion powder and oregano, etc. it shows up before them on the ingredients list.
