I do not think you would be surprised to learn that this is exactly how I operate Edge on my Samsung Galaxy chromebook (using the Linux client within the ChromeOS Linux sandbox). Fortunately, activating the Linux sandbox within ChromeOS is trivially easy [google.com] and installing Edge in x86 Linux isn't controlled by Microsoft in the way they're able to restrict Play ... [microsoftedgeinsider.com].

Partdon the pun if I cite Microsoft Edge as an edge case; another example that few might attempt would be Samsung's mobile browser. In both cases, I expect the developer is intentionally avoiding x86 devices (though Microsoft appears to have gone even further, limiting most everything that isn't clearly a phone).

Otherwise, I love to advocate for alternative browsers on ChromeOS as it is a long-term option for chromebooks past their support date but which won't be granted this feature through the current development path for ChromeOS which will eventually decouple the Chrome browser from the... [aboutchromebooks.com]. At the same time, I would recognize that the vast majority of chromebook users will stick to the Chrome browser or may consider a fully supported Android browser like Opera (which widely advertises support for chromebooks via the Android Play store [opera.com]). In the same way, very few developers seem to bother with restricting chromebooks as an option for their app in the Play store even though that is a lever they can indeed enable (as the Microsoft Edge example illustrates).

Thanks for creating an opportunity to discuss alternate browsers on ChromeOS and also note the less-than completely universal nature of Play store support. As tablets and even some phones have often experienced the latter, it doesn't always get a mention even though it is still part of Google's Play store experience (either blame Google for allowing the broken experience and not enforcing universal support, or blame a given developer for avoiding platforms as part of their strategy).

Good luck!

Picked up a couple black/White letter keyboard skins for $8.00 from Amazon for my C425's and am amazed how well they fit. Ya can't even tell it's a skin and it adds a nice rubberized feel to the keys. Completely solved the visibility issue.

Been waiting for this to drop in price again. Think I'll return the non-touchscreen I bought for $119 and get this instead.

Does your C425TA have the crackling sound glitch which has impacted Chromebooks across brands and models? ASUS was of no help for mine. Chrome OS is up to date. I am not aware if the 433 is impacted.

The C433 has a full metal chassis. It looks nicer than the C425 but is also heavier. The keyboard does have more give than the C425 surprisingly. Colors on the C433 is brighter and more vibrant.

That said, I don't see a huge reason to upgrade to the C433 if you have the C425. They perform similarly in terms of web browsing and running apps.
Well said. The recent discount pricing on both models very explicitly highlights the $50 premium being paid for the touch screen (and, to some extent, the 2-in-1 form factor). For a user like myself, for who Android app support and other touch screen-centric applications are critical the $50 are worth it (particularly at this overall low price). However, there's a broad group of users for whom the 'basics' of browsing are all that's needed and the $129 killer price to deliver that functionality was a key consideration.

I'm just happy to be able to jump on this deal now as only in the interim did I realize that I would indeed have a use for bringing another chromebook like this into the house (so that I can completely retire an older ASUS R11 and let it become someone else's opportunity).

Good luck!
Jon

If you've ever purchased a CB with touch, it is likely you'll never go back to a non-touch model. My workhorse Acer R11 touchscreen needs replacing as updating ended a few months ago. Is the flex on this model evident every time one picks it up by the keyboard whether the CB is open or not? PLMK, thank you and Happy Holidays!

I bought this the last time it was on sale for this price, and although I don't regret the purchase considering the price, the 64 GB storage is very limiting in regards to installing the android apps. Although you can extend it with SD cards, the android apps cannot be stored there and there is no option to format the SD card as internal storage. Besides that, I highly recommend it for this price, but be aware of the limitations.

I have this from when it was on sale last month and I love it. Perfect couch laptop or media consumption device. Keyboard isn't the best and display could have richer colors, but for the price I don't think anything else comes close, to be honest.

Does this have a glossy screen? I bought the non touchscreen version and the screen was not glossy. I returned it due to the screen not being glossy and having a slight yellow tint to it. The keyboard is also hard to read.
Glossy is nice but I try to avoid it when it's touch features.I hate frequently cleaning it up.

Only when open.
My second CB with touch. I really don't use it. Glad I have this over the 425 but my dad probably would have been fine with it. I bought the 433 for him the to replace the Toshiba I got him a few years back. He probably won't like the change.

*The tight lid has to do with the fact that there's magnets on both the lid and the deck. Overkill. I just use a laminated card when I shut it to make opening easier.

The crackling sound showed up out of no were yesterday. It makes the CB unusable. Youtube, Amazon, Paramount. Rebooted has helped some users. I had it on my Acer 713. It would come and go but never this bad. The glitch makes it seem that the right speaker is blown.

I don't think there are non-glossy touchscreens are there? I suppose there might matte screen protectors like there are for phones but I've never looked for laptops.

If anyone wants to get this to install a Linux distro on it, just be aware that audio still does not work on it yet! Everything works on Linux except the speakers/headphones. It doesn't work even on the latest 6.0+ kernels!

And the end of support for chrome os updates is June 2026

The review from Chrome Unboxed [youtu.be] explicitly noted how sturdy the chromebook feels when closed. However, the review dings the feel when opened. I'd caution anyone to consider that most reviews of the C433 were made in the context of its original, arguably exorbitant, $500 retail price. Even Chrome Unboxed later gave a general thumbs up [chromeunboxed.com] when this latest price development first appeared (the most recent article being titled "This "faux" flagship Chromebook is actually worth buying at this price").

https://chromeunboxed.com/asus-ch...33-review/

I have peeked at this repair video [youtu.be] and wondered how hard it would be to eliminate those magnets which seem to be positioned on either side of the trackpad.

Good luck!

I have to disagree with most of the opinions of non-detachable 2-in-1'. Form factor at this size limits the touchscreen functionality.

In docked mode, touchscreen will be difficult to use due to the lack of hinge support.

Cost wise / value-wise, the 425 is a better deal for most given the application and form factor.

What would be some uses that would make the touchscreen variant worth the extra money? Thanks!
I have an older chromebook from 2018 and the touch screen is nice when the CB gets slow and you see the cursor start lagging/stuttering.
