I really don't think it gets better than this. I bought it at $1,299 and that was still a great deal. I don't think you'll ever see this cheaper within the next year. $450 off is also one of the largest absolute and percentage discounts you'll see on any macbook on any site. I've checked.

Got it for this price around Black Friday and ain't sorry. Scored a Wacom Cintiq One and i now have a mini version of my work MBP at home for less than 1/3 the price.

All these people who read articles about 8GB being plenty... I have owned both a 8GB and a 16GB m1 mini. The 8GB would come to its knees with my Safari tabs. 16GB never misses a beat.

Apple sells you 8Gb because the users just swallow the $200 to upgrade to 16Gb without question. They go as far as trying to make the much less important storage space part of the name in listings.

They are a marketing (bullshitting) company first and foremost and then a product company. That being said their products suck less than 15 years ago. Still their main goal is to extract as much money from you as you are willing to pay.

This is false to the max. 3 to 5 years? I do computer repair. I see computers as old as 12 years with no issue. Not saying Mac's aren't built well but Windows pc's can last just as long for half the cost.

8 GB is definitely not enough even for todays workload. Open more than a handful of browser tabs, and you will see the memory pressure go orange in Activity monitor.
Now Apple very cleverly masks the issue by using very fast storage drives, so from a practical perspective, you could easily double the workload before you perceive a noticeable slowdown.
Now this will reduce the life of your drive, and memory requirements only go up over time.

To conclude- you can easily get by with 8GB for normal workloads. But 16 GB is definitely better and will avoid future issues

I want to get my first MacBook, specifically the base M2 Air. Like you said in previous post, I like the better screen. It's also the refresh this year makes it look esthetically more appealing to me.

You mention getting by with 8 GB for normal workloads. I would primarily use the MacBook for: Zoom calls; Microsoft Word; web-browsing; Maybe Netflix. Would these things be considered "normal workload"?
