I ordered the ES3 Plus refurb from them the other week, but it came DOA. I tried to troubleshoot online, but to no avail, so today I took it back to UPS. As soon as I get home, this deal posts. LOL.

This model seems to have much better reviews. Maybe I will bite.

ESx line has poor quality electronics. It's known to have control board failures.

I got brand new one from Amazon a couple weeks ago for $499.

Should i return it and get this one instead? is quite the savings.

Ordered and received mine from the prior thead that went OOS. Was hoping I wouldn't receive a lemon but after looking it over, I had a sigh of relief. Mine came with a mileage of 81.2km (50 miles). Overall, looks gently used and the only part that seems over-used is the grips on the handlebar -- just ordered a new pair of grips less than $10 on Aliexpress. Some parts looked refreshed, what seems new is the rubber step pad, the tires smell and look new, and there was still plastic protective covering on the throttle. Only gripe, is that the prior user upgraded the firmware past v1.8 which may lock me out from customizations for higher speeds over 20mph.

YMMV on the condition received as demonstrated by the ES3 Plus deal from Newegg.

If you already bought it, it sounds like you've determined that a scooter is worth $500 to you. In that case, I would NOT return. As a new item, you have a full-year warranty, and should be eligible for a SquareTrade extended warranty, which I would consider purchasing. Segway's warranty for new items is pretty bad versus its competitors (one year for Segway versus two years for many others).

For refurbished items like this, Segway offers NO warranty, so your only coverage is the 45-day return period offered by Newegg. Plus, I don't think there's any extended warranty available either. Those are big trade-offs to save $130.

As I mentioned, I bought an ES3 Plus refurbished, got a dud, and found that the available technical support was pretty bad. I went with the cheapest option because I sort of view this as a fun experiment. I'm not relying on the scooter. I'm not sure if I'll use it, and I'm not committed to changing my daily routine to accommodate a scooter, rather than a car. So if it doesn't work out, I'll have only wasted $250 bucks. But if a scooter turns out to be a great addition to my life, I'll probably consider upgrading in the near future.

But if you've already determined that you're a scooter aficionado, for sure get the new one with the full warranty, and probably look into an extended warranty too.

Good luck!
