Only reason not to get this is if you do not need a 1x12 cab. Because this box is sized just right, has a sold quality luxury durable feel and mostly is acoustically excellent as a 1x12 cab shape and size, with that part closed bass-ey back and yet open back wall reflection fill is bigger than life and covers all styles.
And that's just the well matched cabinet because this Vintage 30 Celestion 12" mid range is as good as any V30 in history has ever been. Played in or not. From whichever factory or from decades past tat doesn't matter. Plucked out of old 4x12 hair band stacks or not. Wake up! Because this thing is the deal. It's been compared. This speaker is THE most important part of any amplified electric guitar sound and the last in your sound chain. This is the sound emulated by every single digital want-a be device. This is what you heard on the radio all your life. It's specific frequency response and and mid-range pattern. This is what was, and is mic-ed up with a Shure SM57 mic and plus a ribbon or condenser mic optionally. It's how your favorite rock bands created their albums. This is THE sound of rock! Just add balanced gain for crunch, to dime-ed over-driven ultra metal distortion; from a good amp with boost. Either digital or tube pre and power amped. Even a 4x12 IR into this natural 1x12 great sound, without over compressing it. And this is the guitars mid-range cut through, with other instruments. It works in the band.
So many songs have used this response character and ability!
While many of the best Celestion 12" speaker models, made for just electric guitar responses, ranging clean to especially high gain distortion are hard to discern the difference; as long as the power rating is enough for the given number of speakers and amp power THIS V30 is known to be the best do all across just about every guitar song from clean quake country to the absolute best for most rock and metal higher gains. Where you can tell a difference. This is truly vintage classic guitar tone capable right here. It sings at gain or clean better than any other. And does EVH tone excellently without a sweat. And it's a louder, +1 or 2db over most other of these select Celestion's. None of the most popular known 12" Celestion's are bad. And some clones. The only exception is if you only wanted to target match an EVH Celestion.exclusively, with it's at lower power rating, or in speaker groups more than 1x12, Evh speaker has less efficiency per speaker and gives up a bit of that V30 do all extremely well ability. An EVH Greenback 12M would be great fun to test; but it's clear a V30 is close enough and with it all. If you could have only one it would be the V30. AND it pairs extremely well with other 12" or more V30's in 2x12 or 4x12 mixes. Which is a bit splitting hairs; but can get the best responses of both. I just think there is less place for 2x12 extra volume for today's performances. But a stadium jam would be a rare exception. That's not most of us. Players or listener public; unless the loud rock is not really actually deafening us. What? Say again? Rock can't be defeated! LOL.
The whole cab is only about 25lbs and an easy fit for vehicles, without breaking your back. Same weight as the smaller Monoprice 15W tube combo amp. Which is all most need. But that's what you want in a combo, weight control, It's cab is good enough. The 1x12, with a few inches deeper V30 cab without amp here is what you would want for a second speaker, for an amp head, or your undersized speaker combo amp with good power and Speaker out jack. A guest guitarist etc... Or for your home studio and AB testing amps; into it as a standard V30 speaker, for fair comparison.
However; separate cabs and amp heads together cost a lot more and need another cable; just in case you are saving for a combo amp. Then just wait. And you can not forget to have a speaker connected to your combo or other amp or you may fry your amp. Matching the impedance to amp also. Remember: if you ever try connecting other speakers to your combo; you better maker sure some speaker is always connected.
Unless you're a brand name freak and have money to burn (whatever) then if you do really need a 1x12 cab then you better hurry. I suppose it's fair to see if a better deal comes later; but why would it be likely less later; in this inflation market? Don't buy too much or we'll crash. Prices on many things are to high. Not everything. But even if things smooth out in this late business cycle then price will nor likely go back to what they were. Remember there was basic, average inflation before we were miss lead. Ebb and flow exceptions in part; but there is a reason an average house is not $20,000 anymore.
I know it seems wrong, being just $30 shy of the combo sale price recently. But this is in line with cab prices; that I have widely searched. Shop around; mama. I'd be surprised if you could get a good, new cab 112 box, with stellar new or even old V30 in the new 1x12 cab for any less. Just look. They are a LOT more than this and no better sounding, speaker, or build quality. You may indeed like another look as preference and of course slight but insignificantly build difference perks; but it will cost a small fortune. What do you want for $169? And it has a good return policy.
I don't work for them, LOL. I have this exact cabinet and play through it. It's a steal. And it goes out of stock fast. Because: Everyone who knows they should have bought it will; now.
