I think to make this better on microsoft website you can buy xbox gift cards at Costco currently on sale and use that money to buy this controller. For anyone wondering xbox giftcard can be used to buy physical item on microsoft store it's different than sony giftcard can only buy game or subscription
The ratings are meaningless. Since you're gaming on PC, I presume it's Windows and being that Microsoft owns XBox, the controller is natively supported in the OS so no need to scour the internet for compatible drivers. You can use a Bluetooth adapter to play wirelessly or use a USB Type-C cable if you intend to be tethered to the PC. The XBox One/Series controller offers convenience and most modern day PC game titles (from 2008 onward) will detect it automatically... Welcome to the PC Master Race 😁
Same price on Microsoft as well. Bought it Wednesday with some leftover gift card and it arrived Friday.

I'm new to pc gaming so please forgive me if I am asking a silly question but why is the xbox controller rated below 4 stars on most websites? I see the ratings are low (usually below 4 out of 5) on Walmart, Target etc. Just curious if I should just buy them at this price regardless of the ratings or if there are alternatives that work well/better with pc around or below the discounted price for these.

What about durability?
Maybe the ratings low due to stickshift?

I own both the Xbox Series and One controllers which are practically the same and durability is one of its strong suits. Neither one of them have been affected by 'stick drift' and I've only heard reports that users of controllers from Sony (DS5) and obviously Nintendo experiencing stick drift. To take it a step further, if you're worried a/b preserving the condition of your controller, you can always buy a silicone protective case to fit it in which can be found on eBay such as these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264923539979/
