Pricing is currently normal TurboTax + $10. This should drop when the deal goes live on 12/28. Don't bother trying to buy it early.

Yes it's being delayed a year, there's an article abt it at irs.gov. However, it was only ever a reporting change; you've always owed taxes on PayPal/Venmo/etc business income whether it was $20K, $600, or $10. You owe the same taxes you've always owed, it'll just be a lot harder to cheat now (2023 tax year with delay)

Note re: investment transaction download: You don't need Premier just to automatically download investment data. The Intuit web site comparison of the editions [intuit.com]is clearly written to confuse users and to make it sound like Premier is needed. Here's just one thread [intuit.com]that attempts to point it out. Also, remember that for investments, in general, only sales are taxable events (if you just buy and hold or have balances in a retirement account, those would not be taxable events; you can often deduct investments INTO those accounts, though).

Source: Just another victim of Intuit's marketing and TurboTax for 10+ years. (plus the links above).
Yes in fact I just searched the internet to find a non-intuit source that compared the different versions and could not find a single instance that correctly describes the different versions.

It appears that in each case they just went to the Intuit site and copy/pasted what they have there. Some sites said Premier is "recommended" for people with stock transactions while other sites printed the completely false statement that Premier is required if you have stock transactions.

https://toughnickel.com/personal-...d-Business

Says this about Deluxe download : "It includes many tax forms, but not Schedule D." (this is 100% false)

https://www.cbsnews.com/essential...tax-deals/

"TurboTax Premier has all the features of TurboTax Deluxe, but is also great for taxpayers with investment incomes, such as stock, cryptocurrency, bonds, ESPPs, robo-investing and income from rental properties. "

You know what else is great CBS News? Not paying extra for Premier when you don't need to.

Again, congrats to Intuit for effectively confusing so many people into paying for an higher/upgraded version of TT than they actually need.

Since this only includes one state return...how much does an additional state return cost to file? I need to file twice. Thanks

I've done TurboTax online for the past 3 years. Is it easy to just import my data from the online version to this? Once I'm done can I just file my taxes online like with the online version or am I printing something out and sending it in? Thanks

Why are you still grabbing the deal? Because it is still cheaper that anywhere else. Amazon is a business, and the job of a business is to make money. As long as the price that amazon is charging is still cheaper than elsewhere, people will buy it. It is basic economics.
You think this price will come down in price closer to taxes deadline in 2023?

Costco deal is better if you are going to efile state.
Why? Don't both Amazon and Costco versions have 1 free efile for State?

I am wondering the same thing. I don't think e-filing the state is free. However, I thought I read somewhere that since there are 5 e-files, if you install the product on multiple machines you are able to download different states, but I can't find that post.

if I buy and sell options daily, can I get aware with the disc deluxe version? I typically go premier just to be on the safe side and for an extra $15 or $20 i don't really care, but people are really adamant on saying that Premier is a waste of money

You are conflating two different things.

This includes one state download. If you need an additional state download (as in you need to file state tax returns in two different states for a single federal return) then you must purchase an additional state download.

The cost to eFile each state return varies but for most states it is $25 per state per return and no free eFiles are included with any version.

If you want to file by paper/mail (not eFile) then there is no additional cost to file state returns.

So if you live in state X and work in state Y and need to file state tax returns in both state X and Y, you will need to purchase an additional state module/download (X will be free, Y you will have to pay extra for), it appears from the Intuit site that each additional state download costs $40

For those people that might think that you can just install the software twice (on two different computers) and one time download state X and then the second time download state Y, yes that will avoid the $40 state download fee but if there is any interactions between the state X and state Y tax returns you will not get it since the two different installations will not know about each other. So you may not get the correct tax credits between the two states.

Someone posted above that with Premier they were able to get two downloads of state on different computers. IIRC to purchase a state efile separately is between $20-$30.

So what exactly when you need premier? Or what premier can do that deluxe can't?

Can anyone in CA tell me what the difference between the Fed and Fed + State are? I typically buy the combo but pretty sure I have to pay additional for the State filing. Would I be better off going with just the Fed?
The Fed +State allows five fed e-files, but the state is only for the download of the state software, CA in our case. But it does not cover the cost of the state e-file, it is just for the software. I just print the state and stuff it in an envelope for a few $. Otherwise it will be 20 to 25 to e-file the state.

Wait! Maybe I'm over thinking this. I need to file for myself and my wife. But separately. So two federal files. And two state files. But both in the same state...would this work all for the single price or would I have to pay for the state an additional time? Does this make sense? Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Deluxe has everything that premier has wrt Schedule D and auto-import (which you definitely want to use)

I've daytraded and had hundreds of trades downloaded including stocks/options/futures, deluxe (desktop) handled it all.
