Pricing is currently normal TurboTax + $10. This should drop when the deal goes live on 12/28. Don't bother trying to buy it early.

Yes it's being delayed a year, there's an article abt it at irs.gov. However, it was only ever a reporting change; you've always owed taxes on PayPal/Venmo/etc business income whether it was $20K, $600, or $10. You owe the same taxes you've always owed, it'll just be a lot harder to cheat now (2023 tax year with delay)

If you are planning to use no-rush shipping credit, it will not work as it is considered as a part of a gift card payment to buy a gift card. So you may have to pay $10 higher. That happened last year.

I am looking for Premier
Costco.com Deal:
$82.99 - $18 = $65 - $10 credit (eg to file state tax) => $55

Amazon Deal likely :

not sure it will be 72.99 or 62.99)

$72.99 - $10 GC = 62.99
or 52.99

Both are no tax if you choose download option for a state like CA
Also, if you're in the no rush shipping credit surplus camp you can keep an eye on prices between December 29th and January 3rd.

I've been able to score similar discounts on the digital downloads the last couple years in this timeframe to allow me to also use the credits since there is no GC involved. Got Premiere for $54.90 before any credits applied.

Thank you for confirming. The auto-import is great but does Deluxe also handle the calculation of profit (or loss)?
Profit or loss is generally calculated by the brokerage and included in the downloaded/imported data already but yes Deluxe does all the calculations after the auto-import, there are no manual steps unless there is some data that you could not auto-import, then you have to enter that data manually. That is true no matter which version you use.

Can we use just Federal version to file NY return alongside the Federal? NY you don't have to pay to efile as with previous years. So usually the added cost is waived because I'm in NY. Just seeing if you don't need to spend the extra money.
Yes. It's what I did last year in NJ. Used TT Deluxe Federal and pulled the information I needed into NJ's e-file portal. Been doing it for the last few years and it's super easy and saves me money.

It seems like I am conned by TurboTax as well for years as I bought premier. I want to buy the deluxe download version but if I had to upgrade for unknown reason can I do that? This is at the worse case scenario and how much would TurboTax rob me of for doing that?

You can get download version but no $10 gift card and can use no rush shipping credit here

Admittedly, I may be one of those people. I purchased Premier for the past 5 years, including now, just to be sure. Their Desktop Edition Comparison [intuit.com] page states the following for investments: Additional help for investment sales such as stocks, bonds, royalties, mutual funds and employee stock plans.

The purposely vague phrasing "Additional help" likely indicates that most of what you need for investment sales is would be included in the Deluxe version. I would love to know what the exact difference is. That extra $20 is paying dividends for their marketing team.
Yes, if your return is relatively the same each year I suspect that the Deluxe version would work fine for you because you don't need the "extra help" every year, maybe just the first year when you face a decision.

Honestly with so many tax resources/information available on the internet its hard to believe that the Turbotax extra help is really needed even the first time. If you ever get a point where you have have an option/question you don't understand, you can just google it.

Deluxe handles business deductions and expenses just fine.

I've done self-employed business (Schedule C) with deductions and expenses (include Sect 179 deductions) for years with Deluxe only.

Unless you think you are going to need extra "handholding" from Turbotax, Deluxe will do it.

I need to file in the same state twice (once for myself and once for my wife) do I need to purchase a separate state file or does the one included state allow an additional filing?

Yes you always have the opportunity to upgrade from Deluxe to Premier from within the program itself so its not like you have to throw away Deluxe and buy Premier from scratch.

Here's what the upgrade option looks like from Deluxe 2022 version: https://imgur.com/a/yJALdXd

Yes, last year I was able to get 2 different state downloads (with the disc version) by installing on 2 separate computers.
This same trick works fine with the download version as well.

So what's the diff between deluxe and premier? We sold some stocks in brokerage account and was going to import them, should we just buy deluxe?

"Prepare" and "File" are different. This includes 5 federal "preparations" and 1 state "preparations."

E-file costs extra. Most people just print out their preparation forms and mail it in to file.

I share mine with family. They prepare their federal and state. I prepare my federal, turn off my internet, prepare my state, print off both federal and state to mail, and un-install the software. So I'm able to get multiple state preparations that way.
I'm assuming you and your family are using federal e-file as it is included in this price. Or was there some other reason for you to print and file federal return? Yes, the deal does not include state e-file.

I'm surprised that they are sending me a physical gift card. I assumed they would just email me a code.
