I didn't think it was that bad, but I suppose all I did was walk to and from my car. And you've been spoiled for a few years
Reboot the laptop as I said above and hit Ctrl + F11 when it is restarting. See if this brings up the System Recovery.
If so, go ahead and follow the directions onscreen and reinstall Windows.
