CR's Take
This pump spray from Repel is not only the best deet-free repellent, but also one of the best-performing of any that CR has tested, deet-containing products included. With 30 percent oil of lemon eucalyptus as its active ingredient, it earns an Excellent rating for protection against mosquitoes and ticks. Plus, CR's testers found that, unlike many insect repellents, this product tends not to damage fabrics or other materials.
I'm from central FL. I've used it there, in Cameroon and my sister used it in Nigeria (there you are dealing with mosquitoes with malaria). It really works. I prefer it for the kids.
Now, the Repel max works longer and you can get it in wipes, which is nice getting off the plane.
$5 is the average price for this. Don't look at the inflated SD $11 number.

FL mosquito and No-See-Ums will laugh at you if you use this. Get Repel 100 instead.

This is all we use, local price for us is $6 a bottle so about half off, not bad.
Edit: we are in the Midwest and mosquitoes can get bad. This stuff does work well against them provided you fully spray yourself. Lasts 1-2hours. Doesn't last with water or tons or sweat So for example, it's effective when sitting at the lake for fireworks or eating dinner on a patio. It's ineffective if you're swimming or running a marathon through the forest.
Also remember that it's basically useless against ticks. We tuck our pants and spray our ankles/lower legs with deet if we are in a tick area. I also have "deet shoes" for everyone that are pre-treated with permethrin. IMHO, an excellent tick prevention and less toxic if you've got little kids and are worried about that.

But, I'd say that the lemon-ish odor is pretty strong.

It's $5 year round and a little fresher in may/june
