The biggest problems with these language learning apps is the people that skulk around and shame you from using them because it's not going to make you fluent in a language. Yes, you're not going to learn Spanish perfectly without resources outside an app, but it really helps getting started and remaining on the course to learning an additional language.
I have a 5+ year streak going and can tell you without a doubt I know multitudes more Spanish now than I did when I started. Would I have learned more Spanish in those 5+ years if I took classes? Absolutely, but I took Spanish in school for 13 years and barely learned anything. It's all what you make of it
Incidentally, I renewed mine today for $59. Also, I completed 1,000 day streak today!. I started with the free version. It limited how much I can learn. I then switched over to the paid version and it has been worth it. I speak a good Spanish now (I am 65y old) and understand 90+%. I am going to Mexico City in 2 weeks so that I can use my skills and learn more Spanish too. Please remember that paying $59 doesn't make you fluent in Spanish. It is the time you spend learning and this app makes that possible. $5 a month is worth it. There are also free podcasts to learn conversational Spanish, but very limited.
Any idea how to get this promotion as a current subscriber? My sub ends Jan 10, feels bad to be penalized for not having my subscription expire at the 'right time'.

I used Rocket Languages, Babbel and Duolingo. Both RL and Babbel are superior to Duolingo IMO, RL being the best. And you pay it once, it's not subscription model. Here is a review: https://youtu.be/J95QIVa07IU
The "problem" is not the app if you cant get fluency with Duolingo or any other app. You cant expect to read a Python book and be a programmer next day you finish it. It takes real practice. I get mine with actual programming and for actual languages, speaking it with friends if i can, OR with music! Yes, nothing better than immersing yourself with music in whatever language you are learning. I have almost a 500 days streak and i can tell you i can understand most songs in Portuguese, and also say/sing it back. If i dont understand a word, i look it up and learn even more. Is how i learned English when i came to the US.
My only issue is that there is extreme repetition. I know there is science behind spaced repetition, it helps me to not forget words, but man. I've seen sentences from like day 20 in day 480. Too redundant. Honestly, i rather have reminders, than none at all.
To recap, i love duolingo, is the next best thing to been in a classroom learning, and I cant wait to become fluent in Portuguese so i can move onto the next one.
Not paying a dime after the supposedly "better" UI. Installed an old version of the app to continue to use the old interface. Also using pi-hole to block their ads.
Exactly. I am not renewing my subscription for this reason.
Tried to see if this was the family plan, or if it could be upgraded after purchasing the $60 version. It was not the family plan, and the "upgrade" was just still "pay full price for family plan" on top of the $60 already paid. Do not recommend.
seems like this deal is not really deal and is normal price. increase prices then discount it to normal for "limited time only offer".

Wait for Amex offer, that gives back $40, making the effective subscription cost to about $30 - $35 depending on from which platform or app you're singing up.
Unlimited lives, so you can keep making mistakes and not have to stop because you ran out of lives so you cannot continue studying until they restore. It's nice. I have family account, 3 of us use it and I share with a couple of my friends as well. It's easy to add/remove friends
I actually like the free version better. For me, unlimited lives were a source of complacency. I put in more thought in my responses and learn more with limited lives.
I've been a Duo user now for 136 days straight (plus some other short runs in the past). Last week I got this deal and now I am a 'super' user. I likely won't renew. Yes, I'm glad to be done with the ads between lessons (why is it the same 5 ads all.the.freakin.time?!), but I also no longer get the ads every hour that reward you with up to 15 gems just for tapping a few times. Those add up. Which allow me to 'buy' extra time in time rounds etc. And if I run out of hearts, then I do a few review sessions to get more which I obviously need since I ran out of hearts.
I had already jumped on this for my wife. She had a couple month trial from T-Mobile Tuesdays. The timing on it was perfect because our son was starting a Spanish class so she wanted to learn some along with her. She has really enjoyed it and seems to be learning a fair bit of Spanish with it. We have a fair number of Spanish speakers at our church and she's been using her Spanish with them and they've said she has done well. Probably not perfect on it's own but certainly getting her some decent skill and vocabulary.
We tried the regular but it was frustrating for her. Running out of hearts interfered with her ability to do lessons and she wasn't able to practice her mistakes as much. Overall the ads weren't too bad it was more frustrating not being able to do as much as she wanted when she wanted.

Then you have to make an account. Then you can choose premium and apply SARAH50 or the other coupon.
By the way, Rocket Languages are ~60% off using code INSIGHT60

Apple always adds 30 bucks to apps - pays to compare
