Personally i'd recommend avoiding "Greek" saffron. Historically, the Greeks have outputted approximately 2 to 4 percent of the world export crop, per annul, in the past decade; where as Iran accounts for about 70% of the market. Which does not even account for internal national consumption (which they argue would result in a yield total of about 97% of the world supply). Greek saffron is typically among the poorest quality saffron as it must be stored and exported to consumption locals. I opt to spend the extra $2/gram for "coup" grade saffron from Spain. Coup translates as "to cut"; implying that the saffron is processed even further past the harvesting of the crocus stigmas by separating out the most flavorful sections of the stigma. In essence, doing so secures you about 25-35 percent more actual saffron. "Coup" saffron typically only comes from larger production houses. The trick is finding an Iranian or Afgani supplier who offers "coup" because labor is so cheap there. In terms of quality, i'd rank export nations as follows for standard saffron; best of all would be Afgani, then Spanish, followed by Iranian. Lastly, always avoid being sold crocus stamens (sometimes seen as "American Saffron"). Looks somewhat similar, but doesn't taste like saffron.

Self-proclaimed saffron expert here.

Costco has the best bang for the buck saffron on the market. No matter what any naysayers in this thread state, no saffron has a stronger, better taste. Avoid Amazon like the PLAGUE. I've bought several saffrons that ended up being fake (yes, fake saffron is a huge thing Lol). All my local Asian markets sell Saffron cheap too but they're very low quality.

Biryanis, Saffron almond milk, as toppings on various Indian desserts for flavor, flavor enhancer in multiple curries. Saffron extract is being used in various medicines too.

Not sure how different Greek saffron is from Spanish saffron, but you could get at least 25gm Spanish saffron for the same price

Do you have any links? Where do you find it for that price? Costco Spanish saffron is about the same price too in my experience. Please don't quote some anonymous Amazon sellers, Costco sells authentic saffron and of really good quality. I have been using it for the past six years.

Usually this is the price in South Asian grocery stores. Probably cheaper than what I originally quoted. We typically use saffron for sweets and I couldn't tell the difference between Spanish and Greek versions. Here's the same product on Amazon https://a.co/d/cdC4RRX

I once made a sauce of cream, scallops, saffron, and probably a couple others. I don't remember what the base was (rice maybe?), but it was delicious.

I just watched Gordon Ramsey make a really simple saffron flatbread to go with steamed mussels.

I don't know anything about saffron but from Google:

Spanish saffron is very less popular due to its low quality. It contains higher floral waste and more yellow parts making it less effective and less costly. Greek Saffron: - "Red Saffron" is the only type of saffron available in Greece. It is popular due to its high quality color and strong flavour.
