BUT after I added a thick feather duvet to the seat, a pillow to the back and a large cushion to the footrest so that my feet were supported a little longer length than the footrest itself, it actually has become pretty comfy. The footrest is still on the short side, but I enjoy using the chair for a couple hours a night.

for anything you will spend time, get in and out of, it will flake and peel.
much better off buying higher quality second hand.. unless you are fine with throwing this away when it peels, covering it up (multiple people in this thread have already said they are adding pillows and covers to this anyway so may be fine that way), or dont plan to be in your home/appt for more than a couple years and wont move it anyway. All that or just get a fabric based, not fake leather, seat. Just try not to spill or get popcorn grease in it.
For moderate quality seating, 500$ per chair is the bottom of price with decent leather coming in around 800-1000$ per seat.. but certainlty no need to spend 3000$ per seat.
I never worked in textiles, but have made the mistake of buying crap pleather, and obsessively researched for my media room. I ended up best of both worlds.. patience awarded BRAND new 1000$ per seat , real leather, second hand for 850$ for all 4... probably fell off a truck but got 4 seats for the price of one.

Your local quality furniture store will likely be much higher price (and probably quality)
And note if you don't require leather, you can get more chair for the money. Fabric will last if you don't spill on it.

However, I fought them and did a successful chargeback. Too difficult to get rid of it so I ended up polishing it up, keeping it around and using it. Now I like it, other than the mismatched colors.

I do expect the bonded 'leather' to eventually start to peel, but nothing so far, which is better than I was expecting. As for appearance, they look great and are very comfortable. I do use a thin pillow to support my head a bit more when in them for a long time.
They recline really far back, but not quite enough to be near flat if trying to sleep through the night on them. The bonded leather has a nice leathery feel, and while I know it isn't real leather, it doesn't really feel synthetic, like a cheap office chair's bonded leather. Hope that makes sense.
One seat has failed on the USB charger, but I think one of my kids was less than gentle with it. The trays are nice, but require the post to be screwed or unscrewed when moving them from the arm rest storage to the mount. It would be nice if they could engineer a system that let them fit in the storage without manually unscrewing the post. However it can be attached/detached by hand, no tools required, so it is pretty easy.
Hope this helps my fellow Slickdealers.
I worked in the leather industry for over a decade.
Most real leather chairs (aka full or top grain) are only real on the touch surfaces (so the seat, backrest, and arms). The sides and the back are usually PU, or some leather match faux leather. For most folks this will be good enough and last them many many years with no issues, and can be found easily on sale for $500-$1000. Now if you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want 100% leather on every surface, that is where your $2000+ chairs come in. Very little need for real leather where no one will be touching 99% of the time.
I would never buy anything fake leather on the seating surface, no matter the price if it is an item that gets regular use. It will be cracking and peeling in a year or two. Fabric will be better in those cases where one can't afford real leather on the seating.

If you are sitting in it every day, obviously more use and abuse and you could have issues.
If you regularly treat the couches with conditioner, that really helps the longevity.
