These are nice looking jackets, BUT they are not waterproof. I've had one for over two years and every time I wear it in the rain, even a light rain, my clothes are wet when I take off the jacket.
Really?! It's a rain jacket FFS. I can't believe it's not waterproof. The description even says WATERPROOF TECHNOLOGY". Thanks for letting us know.

I got one, these do run big, I wear Medium for the two rain jackets from Marmot. Academy Sports do carry these in more colors if you guys like to try it.

Yep, I didn't realize that until after I got mine a few months ago. Makes the jacket only usable for when doing very little activity.

Did its job as a outter shell to keep me dry while standing in about 40 degree misting and drizzling rain for 2.5 hrs.

Correct, I was able to put my medium on over a medium heavy cotton parka. Was a little snug but surprisingly still had flexibility in armpit, elbow and torso. Length didn't shorten either in arms to wrist or to the waist.

Not sure how much slimmer my Merrell jacket was that it replaced. But it felt a little more fitting. Wish this jacket had armpit zips though.

I can comment on size.

Bought a medium 5 years ago (was $24 on sale then) and I've since lazied into an XL size shirt.

The medium now feels snugger than you'd want a rain jacket, but doesn't feel tight on my XL frame. So I'd say a medium is close to an oversized large.

I will say I've never liked the hood on it, feels too insubstantial and flies off in minimal wind even if you tighten it.
Yeah, forgot about the hood.

It needs a velcro adjustment on the back top or something like my Merrell has to draw in extra material. Was surprised how much extra space there was even while wearing a hat when turning my head around to look over my shoulders.

What would you guys recommend for a light weight waterproof jacket?
Look for something with armpit zips, adjustable hood, not just draw cords but with a velco or other type sinch method on top of hood.

I would think most hiking or outdoors brands will have a jacket that fits your needs. However the jacket from most will be priced around $100 or so. You'll probably have to find a deal when you can get it for around $60 - $70 is my guess.

Most rain jackets in this range from outdoor brands have tradeoffs that make them fall so low to this price.

If you spend more than 10 minutes in the rain, yes you'll keep the rain out but all your body heat will be stuck inside like a sauna. Spend a little more and get the omnitech breathable ones. You'll regret this one.

Got this last time, it runs very large; I recommend going down a size you would normally order.
I got the same advice from a recent SD for a different rain jacked and ordered a size down, its good advice.

In my experience, If Columbia says its water proof then it should be legit water PROOF. Columbia is local here to Oregon, so they know rain. I've bought a lot of their stuff over the years here from them and the quality has always been good. This product is marked "waterproof".
This jacket however is cheaper model and it notably says nothing about being breathable or vented so its not that as some above have noted.

Does anyone know the difference between 2X and XX-Large. I thought they were the same, but apparently they aren't. They have 2X-Tall so it isn't a tall size.

I'm not complaining, but why isn't this item taxed?
