Really generous move for the devs to make, and this is a no brainer purchase at this price if you want Tetris or puyo puyo on your switch
The 2nd one is on sale as well for 11.99

Tetris Effect is Awesome - soundtrack and visuals are amazing. A bit more abstract, so I don't think it'd be as interesting for younger players.
I recommend getting Puyo Tetris 2 if you got younger players, and if you're serious about Tetris single player mode, Tetris Effect is a great improvement on it.

I'm probably the only person in the world who wasn't into Tetris effect. I like what the developer did with other music games, but the Playfield was too scrunched relative to the rest of the screen and it got on my nerves. also, for some reason the music just didn't work for me very much.
as for the switch game, I liked it a lot. I used to play it during customer service calls while on hold quite a bit. usually went with the mixed version of the gameplay,as I have both puyo pop and Tetris in multiple Incarnations in other games on multiple systems due to many years of Gaming.
so, given that, I'm telling you to buy Tetris effect --here's why:
when Tetris players who are a lot more hardcore than I am compared the AI engine of regular old Tetris to Tetris in the combo game they noticed that it was severely lacking at the higher to mid competitive levels of play. you can find a lot of people talking about this on Reddit, even on the Nintendo switch deals subreddit if you go back far enough. it used to come up inevitably when somebody pointed out the early sales for this game, although not so much anymore, because it's a bit of an old game at this point.
now Tetris is an old game in its own right, so it makes me wonder how somebody screwed this up that badly, although it's entirely possible that the only people that are going to notice are the people that have been playing heavily long term to the point they're experts in the game. I personally didn't notice, but I play a lot of games and Tetris has never been a big focus of mine outside of the post-traumatic stress disorder research.(and honestly, based on personal experience, Zoo cube GBA is better for that).
the only reason to get the combine game is if you want the novelty of the Game Boy, as there are better individualized versions of both games.
