"A surge protector can restrict, or "clamp," voltage across the three legs between these components: L-N, L-G, and N-G. This model offers 330 volts (V) of clamping across the main line-neutral leg, the most critical place to block surges. It has 400V clamping across the two grounded legs. While protection remains active, the APC model bathes the word "protected" in green light. When the MOVs eventually fail, the light will go out and power will stop flowing to the AC outlets. (Oddly, these clamping voltages can't be found in the manual or product page, but are "printed" in black-on-black tiny molded type on the unit's underside.)"

Warning… The edge lights up in green… Very bright green… I had to cover up the edge of mine with black electrical tape because the room was so brightly lit up.

Look through the Amazon reviews searching for the words "bright", "light", or "green"… Might not bother you, but you should be aware…
Nope, this was covered in the last thread. It's 330. Molded right into the plastic
Bought 2 last time. Can confirm that clamping voltage is 330, 400, 400.

This is a much better deal than the non-registered one yesterday, even though that was about half the price.

And Wirecutter has tested it and their unit clamped the voltage at 205.2V: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutte...protector/

You can buy it from home depot same price.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/APC-1.../318679103

It is 330V for Clamp. ON the homedepot page APC support states just as much and it is baked on the back of the protector.

I just got the belkin 12 outlet 3940 surge protector for my living room. Should I return that for this?

The 12-outlet APC Performance SurgeArrest P12U2 used to be a runner-up pick in this guide, and it actually blocked more volts (all but 205.2) than our top pick did in surge testing. However, it's no longer a pick because it has a slightly inferior auto-shutoff feature that kicks in only when the main (L-N) leg wears out. This means that if either of its other two legs (L-G or N-G) breaks down first, it will continue to send power to your devices, and they could sustain damage in the event of a surge.
Emphasis mine.

I bought one and mine had high pitched coil whine coming out of the surge protector I could hear from 5-6 feet away just plugged in with nothing else connected to it.

Yes, it's not one of their recommended units anymore because of this but from a clamped voltage perspective only it does a great job. Unfortunately surge protectors that stop powering devices when they're no longer functional as surge protectors seem somewhat rare.

Yeah, this is the unit that I was going to get per Wirecutter's recommendation, but apparently it's no longer such a good idea. Glad I didn't go for it.

I'm in the market for one because my UPS recently died, and although I do intend to replace it, upon doing some research it turns out that it and other consumer level UPS's only provide a bit over 1000 joules of protection, while Wirecutter's top rec, the Tripp-Lite, offers nearly 3000 joules (the APC offers even more at over 4000).

What I'm wondering though is whether it's wise to put a surge protector such as the Tripp-Lite in series with a UPS, and if so before or after it, to get the benefit of a UPS as well as more power protection. Most UPS makers say to not do this, but some say that it's ok. So I'm confused. The specific UPS I'll probably get is the CyberPower 1350VA pure sine wave, which is the one I had and which they're replacing for free.

I'm thinking put this before the UPS and don't use the other outlets for anything with a high load, so an 8W LED or phone charger should be ok.

There's also this Tripp-Lite, which is $35 and offers 4300 joules protection:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DFR56T2

Btw Eaton, the company that owns Tripp-Lite, is one of the UPS makers that says it's ok to put a surge protector before a UPS:

Why is there always some reply with some paranoia about fires and whatnot from these or adapters. JFC. Are peoples houses constantly catching fire from these things? Been on my block for 30+ years. Only seen one fire 20 years ago and no clue what it was from..

You can use a USB-A to USC-C cable. I have another older/model of this and it does not provide fast charging with the USB slots built in. IDK if this does. I just end up using the charging brick. Something to keep in mind.
