These games are not really expensive to print in volume and have relatively high MSRPs.
I found Catan expansions for $2 ea in large quantity on Alibaba and those retail for $25-40.
Fakes are more a problem on marketplaces like Amazon and ebay etc.
Legit retailers get legit product from legit distribution channels.
Amazon is a problem source too, "sold by Amazon" doesn't really mean its not counterfeit as they are known to mix 'new' product from different sources and they're a big ripe target for any scam.

I am not sure Wingspan is my favorite, so many choices Barrage, Welcome To, Wingspan, Nidavellir are all solid in my book.

My one critique of the digital game is that I wish the asynchronous games were 24 hrs per move, or at least had the option to revise. 72 hours is too long and can make a game drag on forever.
