Costco's version includes $10 credit which for an additional TurboTax service like e-file of state return. (State e-file is $20.) If you e-file state, Costco price is essentially the same cost as the Amazon deal and Newegg is $5 more.

If you expect any sizable state refund, e-file is probably worth it to avoid the delay in paper return processing.

For the people asking if this will get any cheaper: Last year I was monitoring the prices, I don't recall them getting cheaper as deadline approached. They got marginally more expensive with time IIRC.

For the people asking if the online version goes on sale. I don't ever remember it ever being on sale, but Robinhood gave $10 off if you used their link with them last year.

Yeah that's a bit sketch. Not saying it necessarily was, but it's that exact situation you hear about all the time - some people always went to a preparer because they got more $$ back, not realizing the preparer was filing improperly, and that THEY are the ones liable for the illegal return because they signed it.

That said I can certainly see situations where the preparer/CPA might notice more deductions/credits you can take, although I will say Intuit does a lot of handholding, asking questions about stuff you've done in the year, and that's all geared toward saving you $$.

A few years ago, back when I first got out of college, I filled out TT for us (at the time no kids) and it came up with that I owed a bunch of $$ which was odd. So I filled out HR and TA as well, just for multiple sources (each will give you a refund/owe figure without paying for it), and HR actually came out more $$ than the other 2. Turned out that HR was incorrectly applying a penalty fee for whatever reason (basically if your income jumps year over year they don't penalize you for underpayment, or at least that's how it used to be).

Yep, TurboTax has been that way for years: the price drops around the beginning / end of the year, then returns to normal and stays there. I can't say for sure that it doesn't drop again right before the filing deadline because I've never waited that long to buy, but if history is any guide this price won't last much longer and is the best you're likely to see for the next few months.

It is a travesty that THE PEOPLE don't demand THE GOVERNMENT to develop a website/web app for all to use to file their taxes for free. There is no excuse for the IRS not to provide software for free and basically make everyone buy this or similar software.

Question for the slick and tax knowledgeable. I worked in two states last year, Minnesota and Nevada. Since Nevada doesn't have state income tax, is it correct that I would only need the 1 state e-file? In addition to that, I sold my home in Minnesota, which was my primary residence for 3 years, that I assume I'll have to pay tax on the gains of. Which version of TurboTax would I need to cover this scenario?
Any residential as primary over 2 years you don't pay the tax, but if you have any other property sold less than 2 years..Yes. you have to pay it. If Navada is not required to file, you will file only a State what you earned money from. simple w-2 with one primary property - Deluxe will cover, if you do also have biz you own and stocks, etc.... go with premier.

Still don't understand why there is a differentiation between download and online. Why are people paying to download software, unless you're (for some reason) overly worried about "cloud" based stuff? At least it USED to be that buying a physical CD and doing an install meant you could do multiple returns for free, but not any more.
Sorry are you saying you can't file for two (or up to 5) different people with the downloaded software?

Yes ideally it would be better if IRS buys Turbo Tax and make it free. However would you trust them to update it with all the appropriate deductions. They would ruin turbo Tax.

Sorry I live in a state with no stateincome taxes so they have the deluxe version without state.
costco:
deluxe + state + $10 turbotax credit = $55.99 - $11 discount = $44.99
premiere + state + $10 turbotax credit = $82.99 - $18 discount = $64.99
discount valid until 1/22/23

The Costco product description is "PC/Mac". This year the Amazon download version came with both PC and Mac installation files. (Both came in the zip file provided.) It appears that the license is for up to 5 PCs. I would assume but can't confirm that the Costco version would be the same. The key difference is that Amazon offered a $10 Amazon gift card and Costco includes a $10 TurboTax credit.
Thank. It is likely they are the same. Amazon offer expired so Costco is a better deal now. I can use the $10 credit for state efiling.

You pay a lot extra to have your hand held and a pretty interface. HR Block is more for tax savvy people.

No, they wouldn't ruin it or they would lose claims. It would have to work perfectly, and it would be in their best interest.

Cheaper with Chase for some people. It's $34.99 for deluxe and, if I understand correctly, you also get $10 cash back. YMMV. Some have a $5 cashback deal.
how do you get it cheaper with chase? is it chase offer? which link did you use to purchase the product?
