Think of using the hotel's connection as the dumb pipe that provides Internet to the router. The travel router then shares that connection with its own IP address range issued by the travel router. On some travel routers, you can also run OpenVPN to provide further security to the netowrk/ travel router.

Here's one use where a person uses a Wyze cam in their hotel room when traveling

I saw a stack of these at a local Lowe's store yesterday for the low ball price of $8.82, it was originally $35.00. Just doing my research now...already have a Kindle Firestick and Roku Stick. Not sure I need another gadget BUT I am tempted for such a dirt cheap price just to tinker with it.

The issue is hotels block or limit streaming devices from connecting to their network. This has nothing to do with brands of devices, but how to use those devices the way you want.

I would disagree
Using a chromecast makes it more difficult because of the connection to the hotel network and the way chromecast works

Roku on the other hand doesnt need this type of connection and is not based on casting.
You log onto their network and you are good to go

You have seen a few examples in this thread about what people had to do to try to use a chromecast in a hotel

No thanks...when you can buy a Roku so cheap and it just works

Thanks, OP. I picked one up at my local Home Depot. Brickseek said there were four in stock. I found only one on the shelf, and it was opened, but I took the chance for $8.

You can connect this either hardwired or wifi. Regardless of how you connect to the hotel's Internet, this eventually sets up your own dedicated network (wired and wireless) with your own IP range, SSID, VPN, and security.

As I said at the beginning of this topic, mobile hotspots work the best. Instead of using 5g/4g, you can "offload" to another wifi connection. You can also do this with some routers but some might only extend existing networks when you want your own SSID and your own subnet. Mobile hotspots are easier. Such as MR1100

I got one of these for free from work and used it on an older TV until I got a new fire TV. Still works on the old TV though. Can stream video and audio from computer or phone and has a decent looking screensaver. Only works in chrome browser though or sharing your entire computer screen and then playing video.
