Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Let me say it in a way that can help you understand. The built quality passed for someone who once leased 6 BMWs in a row. I actually like Tesla seats much better. I feel less tired after a long distance drive. But what's most important to me is the performance and safety. My Tesla can pretty much do a circle around most BMWs. That instant torque from Tesla is so much better than BMW engine that has to rev for a couple seconds before it responds. Also Tesla's premium audio is so much better than the premium Harmon Kardon audio system that was in my 2019 BMW X3 Executive Package. Let's not even talk talk about the infotainment system. Tesla's bigger screen is so much better and responsive than BMW screen. Yeah...I don't miss my BMW. Maybe the service department because they gave good snacks and drinks. LMAO
I've had a similar experience. BMW are very good performance machines. But Tesla performance made a new definition for performance. But it kind of depends on your luck with Tesla. It could be perfect, or you could run into so many issues that you will regret getting one. That goes with any car though.

Like people posted earlier, it's a no Brainer to get this deal if you need a car right now. Even if you're a super hater, what can you get better for the money? I haven't seen anyone post a better alternative

Thanks for the heads up. I am looking to implement the Juicebox 40 home charger installation through PSE&G as well.

I am still in the process of gathering information regarding all applicable rebates through NJ.

Can you please PM me with some helpful information regarding the PSEG EV application?

Were you able to qualify for the $250 rebate by purchasing through Costco?

I've found 3 so far, 2 specific to NJ, one federal -
NJ state $250 rebate for approved chargers [njcleanenergy.com]
Federal 30% credit for approved chargers [irs.gov] (up to $1,000)
PSEG rebate for installation [pseg.com] (up to $1,500)

Let me know if you find more.

I agree. There is no BMW around $53K that can beat Model Y. That's why Tesla Model Y was even outselling BMW when it was priced at $66K. I would buy BME if they can sell Model iX3 for $55k with at least 300 mile range. But based on the price and performance spec for the European version, it doesn't look like BMW can make a decent EV for around $55K. I heard it's $85k with 260 mi range. Disappointing

They're trying, and failing miserably, but that's what leads to innovation. Competition brings out the best in the free markets. We need a bunch of solid competitors for Tesla EVs for us, the consumers, to win.

An EV company that can scale in the price range of $25k to $35K with a profit will become the EV manufacturing leader in 2025. Companies that cannot even make a profit on $50k EV will file a bankruptcy when China brings their affordable cars to US market. Tesla will be the only US EV company that has the best chance to beat Chinese competitors. So I don't mind buying Tesla cars and support them.

do clean cars for 9500 + cvrp for 7500 after feb 28th.. no brainer
wait can you elaborate on this. what's special about after feb. 28th?

where did you get the 9000 and 7500?

CVRP is only 2000 + 2500 if you're low income + 2500 when you trade up old car.
then 7500 from federal.

Anyone get their updated ETAs for the Model Y?

Please post:
1. When did you order
2. What upgrade options did you select
3. What city/state do you live

Funny how I was looking at used RAV4s, only to deposit for a CRV 2023, then SD effect got me to order a Model Y. Like way over my intended budget...but YOLO, and hopefully worth in the long run lol.
I ordered one that was in inventory Friday morning around 830am. Two hours later all the inventory cars in NJ below 55k ( for NJ rebate) were gone. LR Model Y, midnight gray, black and white interior. 54600 NJ rebate of 2k, no sales tax for EV in NJ. Out of pocket $8250. Leased ( I don't qualify for credit due to MAGI limits). $505 a month. I pick it up 10 hours from now. Also the residual on the lease is 37k (though no option to buy). So it seems they lowered residual proportionately with discount.

Nice, but wow that's insane tax. Don't forget there is a registration fee, I think mine is $250. You do get the order fee subtracted back out, so that's nice. But then you have to buy your own charger, and the cheapest is a mobile for $230 lol.

Got the tax and fees from CA DMV. Link below;
