Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I want to cancel my order too. What reason to use for CC dispute?

cancelled goods or services.. per reddit. "Just file a chargeback, it doesn't matter what tesla say, they have to follow visa or mastercard rules, and to them there no such thing as a non refundable deposit if no good or service is delivered. (unless you physically signed paperwork)"

but you need to first cancel the order and attempt to get a refund before you file the dispute.

What you might consider serious, Tesla may not. Quality control issues seem to be a common talking point. I wanted a shiny new toy when this thread started but after the reviews and online posts, I've decided that I value quality more so I'll probably get a Toyota and call it a day.
The fit and finish issues have largely been ironed out long ago. They score higher than the vast majority of vehicles now.

FYI, they refused to fix
What was the issue? I've had 2 Teslas, both with delivery issues and they fixed everything I pointed out other than the classic "panel gaps" which they always will say are in spec unless it's crazy bad

I looked in wiki and search, didnt find it. Please point, if its answered.It says Adjusted Gross Income of 2022 or 2023 can be used per the limits.

Does it mean, if I havent yet filed 2022 taxes, can I claim credit on that 2022 filing ?
Or claim only on 2023 tax failing but use AGI of 2022 (not sure how, probably CPA does) ?

Please anyone knowledgeable can help...
I looked this up. It's the lower AGI for 22 or 23. You claim it only in 2023 taxes

šŸ™„ the hate brigade says anything to trash Tesla once they find threads getting attention. It's just a campaign aimed at trashing Tesla.

The red sounds pretty cool, like the Mazda red? it's amazing. I think electric vehicles look super futuristic in silver, prob my fav. Free white color though, can't pass up on that, current vehicle is white and looks very classy.

Thanks for megacaster info.

For color, I think the German factory received a new red and quicksilver. The red is supposedly a bunch of coats so it changes colors on shades and shadows. The quicksilver looks kinda cool. I think both are to make their way to the US, but idk about timeframe

The problem is no way of knowing if your car comes with the sensors or not. I tried to ask the sales guy he has no clue.

Texas might have better delivery timelines considering the plant in Austin. Calif has better timelines as well.

$60k is a lot of money for a depreciating asset. Buy one if you're in the market. Don't buy one just because you think it's on sale.
Ya dot buy it just because it is on sale. But the driving experience is much nicer and comfortable. The only comp I see if you want to way BMW or Mercedes you might want to buy a Tesla. The maintenance costs are low no oil changes or expensive repairs. But if you have a Japanese vehicle and have no intention of upgrading don't buy. Tesla super charging is also expensive it costs around 23 c per KWH and you will save money only when gas is above 3.50.
