Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Prepare for another influx of orders given that the IRS retroactively made all Model Ys have a $80k limit.

Thanks for sharing the updated news! I was able to swap my order that had no VIN assigned and estimated delivery March 12-18 (MYLR, white, induction wheels) to an inventory performance blue that I just scheduled delivery for next week! OMG

Awesome! Who did you contact to do the swap? Did they confirm it qualifies for the credit?

If you don't have a VIN assigned, selecting "manage" at the top left corner gives you an option for accelerated delivery by choosing something in inventory. It automatically updates your order so it reuses the the original deposit fee.

Since the rebate is guidance from the IRS, Tesla shouldn't have a say if it qualifies. The table in the IRS link is pretty straight forward.

Model Year Vehicle Description Applicable MSRP Limit
2022, 2023 Tesla Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive $55,000
2022, 2023 Tesla Model 3 Long Range $55,000
2022, 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance $55,000
2022, 2023 Tesla Model Y All-Wheel Drive $80,000
2022, 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range $80,000
2022, 2023 Tesla Model Y Performance $80,000

So essentially autopilot is on par with pilot assist 2? A bit disappointed having to pay 6k for advanced pilot.
Yes, from what I can tell. Volvo's PA2 actually had auto-park, which I never used. It was clunky and slow. It was quicker for me to just parallel park or pull into a normal parking spot.

Great. Thank you. Is there any way to search more than 200 miles away? Also, if I decide to just do a new order, can I apply my previous deposit to the new order since I don't have a VIN? Thanks.

Not entirely clear what you're asking here- but there is no routine/regular maintenance required at all in the first month. Or first year.

The only regular maintenance required on the Y is:

Check brake fluid every 2 years to see if it needs replacing (and do replace every 2 if towing)

Change cabin filter every 2 or 3 years depending if it's the HEPA filter or not (and if it IS HEPA, change that filter every 3 years)

Change A/C desiccant bag every 4 years

Rotate tires as needed, and if you live someplace they salt the roads in winter clean/lube your brake calipers annually or every 12.5k miles.

That's it.

Maintenance is vastly less than a gas car.

Is the March rule still valid with this change?
Is it possible the Federal credit amount may change in March when more clarity is added to battery requirements?
Yes it's still possible what is eligible for how much will change when they issue the battery sourcing guidance in March (at least SOME vehicles are likely to have the credit cut in half to $3750 though it's anybodys guess right now if that will include any Teslas or not... the LFP based SR Model 3 would be most likely to lose it based on what we know right now though)

From Tesla website

Price Caps
The vehicle price at time of delivery must not exceed the following caps. This price includes optional equipment physically attached to the vehicle at the time of delivery and excludes software features, accessories, taxes and fees.
Model 3: $55,000
Model Y with 5 seats: $55,000
Model Y with 7 seats: $80,000

Yes, the website hasn't been updated with the new information. Now all Ys under 80k (which is all of them) qualify regardless of seating.
