My ISP choices are 1gb or 2.5gb, the price difference is $10/mo and the 2.5 is fiber all the way without any converters that need power. What saturates it? Downloading games from Steam, uPlay, Epic, etc., As well as uploading backups to the cloud and syncing files to a NAS at another location. Plus it's nice that there's 1+gbit of bandwidth available even if someone else in the house is saturating the Ethernet or wifi on their device

Nothing. You're paying for speed. If you don't know you need it, you don't need it - get the $22 one.

Streaming movies is definitely on the low side of bandwidth usage, but copying files to your server or a NAS can definitely take advantage of the speed. For example, with modern HDDs/SSDs in a NAS, the transfer limitation is 1G Ethernet, and 2.5G Ethernet more than doubles that limitation. Think system/data backups and other times when you are transferring large amounts of data.

$150 vs $20. You need to want that speed!

I've paid more for managed 2.5 gear. It's great for places with Cat5e still in the walls or otherwise can't get upto 5 or 10Gb reliably. It's still cutting your file transfers in half, which is a huge time savings depending on the files you're moving.

My switch has 2.5 ports, with two SPF+ ports. So connecting my storage at 10Gb, I could have potentially 4 maxed out 2.5 clients. Doable if you have NVMe storage or cache.

Obviously not for everyone, but with ISPs providing >1Gb service, smartphones with Wi-Fi 6E, and cost for 2.5G (and higher) coming down for NAS and other devices, this is a great way to take advantage.

What's the difference between this and TL-SG108 besides the speed and price? TL-SG108 cost $22 compared to this one. Don't know much about switches.

It's unfortunate TP-Link uses similar model numbers. The TL-SG108 is an 8-port 10/100/1000M switch, while the TL-SG108-M2 (this one) is an 8-port 100M/1G/2.5G switch. 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet is the next step up from 1 Gigabit Ethernet which is very commonplace.

Un-managed and business-class can't be together.

+1 for this. I have a bunch of the 108e models for the vlan capability and when this popped up I couldn't figure out why it would be so popular at this price.

Business-class can often mean basic and low-cost. At least in this case it means Lifetime Warranty.

$150 for an unmanaged switch? Seems ridiculous to me.
You're paying a premium for the additional speed.
