Phison E16 controller w/ DRAM and 96L Micron 3D TLC NAND. PCIe 4.0x4 generation rated at 5,600 MB/s sequential read and 4,300 MB/s sequential write. 3,600 TBW endurance rating.

Price looks pretty good for a higher end NVMe disk with a good controller and a 5-year warranty.

It will technically work but the speeds are under Sony's recommendations. The CS3140 or other ssds may be better options.

Edit, you'll also need a heatsink

1st GEN PCIe 4.0 drive, so it's pretty fast, but it's long in the tooth and generally will get beat by the newer DRAM-less drives. Very good warranty though 5 year, 3600TBW.

Beat by DRAM-less? I thought DRAM means more performance?

WTF is that write speed? It's ok for gen 3, but abysmal for gen 4. Not worth this price, especially when the Crucial P5 Plus with much faster speeds than this and was on sale recently for $150.

I had ordered the b&h deal earlier today but then quickly changed my mind and cancelled the order as I decided that the price was to close the WD Black deal going around at $170. This drops the price just enough to make it worth saving a few dollars in exchange for a little less performance compared to the WD Black deal.
Granted nvme sales keep dropping prices so I bet in 2 weeks I will regret this purchase.
$25 is absolutely not enough of a difference to not get a drive that has 7600 MB/s read and 6700 MB/s. That's just dumb.

Not a great deal compared to a 2TB SN850x with way better specs for $170/$180 with/without heatsink.

And WD has the 2TB SN850x for $169.99. Which is a toss up for best all around Gen 4 NVMe with the $259 SK hynix Platinum P41

the PNY has endurance of 3600 vs WD 1200 tbw. Btw, looking around at the specs, I don't think Walmart listed the right speeds.

Yep, had this exact model in my PS5 for over a year, passes the SSD validation and has run with no issues.
So I just need to buy a heatsink and it will be good ?

Happened to me last week. I purchased a SteelSeries headset from Amazon that was on sale for $190, 2 days later it dropped to $140EEK!. I wind up changing my mind and cancelling the order but I wish more companies would implement a price match guarantee

I heard PNY makes bad products. The flash drives are downright awful. Has this company suddenly started making good SSDs beating the top leading industry brands, Samsung and Hynix?

TBW tends to go down as you push the specs limits.

Plenty of good drives are listed at 600. I'll grant you 3600 is triple while performance isn't even close to 3 times worse, however $20 isn't a huge value proposition, were the Black not on sale, sure. But components can still die years after warranties while still under TBW. We use the acronym but think of the massive amount of data movement, if it's a serious concern you probably should have some spinny boys in raid.

I mean it's Tom's Hardware Editors Choice for $20 is all I'm saying.

Exactly. Another good point. If $25 is too much of a price difference for you, you shouldn't be looking at Nvme drives at all.
