The 4080 is moderately faster, but the 6950 is pretty damn close (check the benchmarks[tomshardware.com] if you don't believe me). And for literally half the price, the 6950 is definitely the better buy.
Actually the new raytracing in unreal engine 5 runs as good or a little better on AMD.
To the institutions and corporations, consoles are king. High performance Ray tracing is coming to the new consoles through whatever black magic or encoding changes they need to make. And that means it's coming to AMD because the consoles are 100 percent AMD PC hardware.
In fact it's already here with unreal engine 5, it just needs to be further implemented and almost ever game studio is adopting it.
So sick of people commenting on ray tracing as if it's something that should determine the purchase of a card. Go look at gaming benchmarks from hardware unboxed, gamers nexxus, jayz2cents or any reputable tech site. RT tanks your FPS and still to this day isn't worth the performance hit especially if you game at 1440p and above.

Nvidia has dedicated Ray Tracing cores AMD does not. Sure are they optimizing some of this stuff to work ok on consoles. Yes, but dedicated cores will always run better than not. This statement is misleading at best...
The sad truth about all GPUs this generation is that neither nVidia or AMD made any huge leaps in performance per watt. 4090 uses 100w more (23% ish) than the previous gen 3090.
nVidia has done a better job it seems of making gains, but much of that has been through advances in tech like a 4nm process and DLSS 3.0's frame "guessing", and even nVidia's own numbers note that they used DLSS 3.0 to create their internal benchmarks…something of an unfair fight since only 4-series GPUs use the tech. The rest is higher clock speeds for which you sacrifice an extra PCI slot to cool it. New gen cards are propagated on the idea that only frame rates matter.
AMD's incremental gains seem smaller, which to me, makes these last-gen cards viable for awhile longer. Not much incentive for me to push to a new one.
I'm holding out for Intel to throw a wrench at these GPU prices. Come on second gen Intel cards!
That would be great. The more the better. Completion = better prices and better products. Got to love a free market economy . I miss the days of having many graphics card companies battling it out for our business.
honestly, this would be a buy for me, if it didn't include the games bundle...
take 120 ("value" off)
and it would be 580....
Except that's not even at all close to how it works. Do you really think any retailer is lowering the price of their video cards by $120 because they don't include 2 games?
You could always try to sell the digital codes to someone with an AMD GPU on Ebay but you'd probably be lucky to get $40 bucks for both games.

It is if ones is prioritizing the benefits of ray tracing over frame rate.
I'm so sick of people commenting primarily about frame rates, as if that's the only thing that should determine whether a card should be purchased.
Frame rate affects every game ever for every user. Ray tracing affects a small sub section of games for a small sub section of players. If you care about Ray Tracing, make your decision based on that. For the overwhelming majority of players and people world wide, RT isn't even worth mentioning, much less basing your purchase on.
