to be fair, DLSS is needed for RT, even for a strong card like RTX 4090. AMD has FSR inplace of DLSS, although it, being a software, wont be as good as DLSS, which is dedicated hardware. but if you dont care about RT, thats half the chip you wont be using on a nVidia chipset.
dlss is a gimmick

They can't, they've been stockholmed.

The non deal posts, people that have been pining for anything resembling a reasonable price bite, then they shout down anyone that criticizes their "deal" in the forum to protect the mass delusion it was a good price. Then it gets aggressive, critics get labeled trolls, SD mods get involved, and then delete any critical posts that may cause users not to buy and profit them affiliate kickbacks.

This site is quickly becoming a speak no evil, hear no evil corporate apologist shill site.
Maybe the actual problem is that your group insisted the price of the 30 series would tank with the release of the 40 and was very wrong and so on with new AMD cards.

The pricing of GPUs has been pretty firmly established. If you can't accept that there are lots of other ways to play games. But people have waited a long time with little payoff and are done waiting for something that's probably never going to happen.

Yeah… The 1080Ti launched at $699 MSRP. This beats the 3090 in some use cases and that launched at $1499. I don't know what universe these guys traveled from where the top 5 fastest GPUs ever all cost less than $500.

This card for $685 is a good deal. It's an even better deal open box, with the credit card, etc. PC parts always get cheaper as time goes on… you wanna use a computer or just shop for one?

this isn't overpriced tho..it was released mid 2022 and is well below msrp
It was released in December 2020, then re-released at a higher price in 2022. Never have i seen a group of people clamor for the chance to pay 75+% margins on a 2 year old product.

I've had this card for 4 months. Aside from coil whine above 300 fps (mainly during loading screens when the scene complexity drops) it's been 'ok'. The power and ability to overclock is undeniable - I briefly had the fastest PC on 3dmark with this combo of GPU and my CPU.

There was also a driver bug for 2 months that would black screen during zoom calls. Could only be recovered via reset. A bit embarrassing as my coworkers could still see and hear me but I couldn't even close the call without a hard reset.

That's the story pretty much. Expect little annoyances to a greater degree than Nvidia. This is also 2x the performance for price.

It can do ray tracing, just not at 4k high settings and 120fps. But the only cards that can do that (even using DLSS) are 4080 and 4090. It's a geometric problem - step down to 1440p, enable AMD's super resolution, and yeah it's more than fine. But so is the 6900 xt which is arguably an even better value for 1440p.

I'd say this is the card to get for 4k, high fps, non ray tracing. You won't miss DLSS because you won't need it.

ya know what totally sucks!! i had a couple various gpu's but i had no interest in doing anything with them so i put it all in a box and sent it to electronic recycle. then i came upon another desktop from my parents and had the aha moment of giving it to my kids.

SO... i dont need overkill or something that will just bottleneck the GPU, or is it better that way? i just wanna get something cheapy that can hopefully play roblox or minecraft on easy settings.

For CASUAL (non-Pro) gaming enough 60 fps because 90-95% user's monitors have this limit refresh rate and it's OK for casual,so:
RX 6700 for $330 provide 1440p/60 gaming in ultra settings without ray tracing.
RX 6800 XT for $513 (temporarily sold out, people are crazy about Microcenter deals) provide 4K/60 gaming in ultra settings without ray tracing.
IMHO, other AMD cards just not interesting right now for casual (non-Pro) gaming because between/lower in performance or give just little bit up for bigger price.
RX 6950 XT (or newest 7900 XT) only interesting for Pro 1440p/120 gamers because in Pro gaming high fps VERY important.
And top of the hill - RTX 4090 with almost 4k/120 ultra pro gaming, there AMD has nothing.

And yes, AMD drivers have some glitches and not so good for work.
If someone want ML, video-editing, calculate on GPU or gaming with ray tracing - will pay for Nvidia anyway.

EDIT: I correct my previous comment.

Ranking in performance from Tom's Hardware is:

RTX 4090
7900 XTX
6950 XT
RTX 4080

This is a pretty good value.
Only someone who hasn't used either card would rank a 6950xt above a 4080.

I've purchased microcenter 2 year warranty on all open boxes. The $30 extra will save you a lot of headaches. If you do return, you can apply the purchase cost to a similar computer part. Sometimes the return works out even better in 2 years.
I was buying a 7900xtx at micro and the associate told me point blank to buy a warranty. You can use the warranty to upgrade before it runs out. The person state that it is sent back to the manufacturer and it's refunded as a gift card to the store so they don't mind much.

it was released in 2022 to compete with 3090ti, which was also released in 2022..
It's not a 2 year old product. And you haven't seen a lot of things
