february update since this is still getting views - internet has been much better with no difference between what I used to get for speeds on tmobile and what I get now on us mobile. I think there was just something wrong with my account when I started with them.

Once you port in the existing number you won't be able to port out until you start paying for the line (and that too if your luck favors)
Not worth if you plan on keeping existing number for many years
If you're still sure that you have to leave, ask the carrier you're moving to for specific instructions. If you need your Account Number and PIN contact us, and we can provide that after we've verified that it is really you. We take that step as an extra step to protect your security
