Wow tele is super tempting. Great deal.
I bought the tele in dark night/rosewood the first time this sale came around. The color is 100x nicer in person

These were probably around $1350-1400 new in 2020 when it was released. Before the Pro 2 release, I bought the Pro from an Adorama deal for $1100 in 2019. It was a good price, but I wish I waited a year to get the new features of the Pro 2. This is a good deal but I suspect Fender might be coming out with a new model soon so I'd wager these could get cheaper in a year or two. Buy if you need a guitar right now, but if this is your indulgent buy, I'd wait a year.

Is this too much of a guitar for someone starting out with electric guitars? Thinking about getting this for my 12 year old who is transitioning into electric guitars from acoustic.
the risk of buying instruments for beginners is many end up quitting. The price range for guitar is beginner around $500, intermediate around $800-1000, and above $1200 can easily be end game for many professional musicians. In fact, Cory Wong used to play with a cheaper model strat than this model.
I'd say for a 13 year old, unless if he's already really good, I'd get a Mexican Fender, something like Player series on sale. These are solid for intermediate, and if he outgrows it, he can use it as an "experimental" guitar to learn guitar modding and maintenance skills.

Would love to buy that dark night rosewood tele. Unfortunately, after my own experience with them and after hearing about experiences of others here on Slickdeals, I'm not completely sure I won't be getting a used or a factory seconds guitar, sold without stating so. Buyer beware!

Buyer beware!!

I bought one of these to play and it didn't sound like jazz at all. If anything I'd describe the sound as "amateurish noise".

If you have the money it's certainly a good guitar. I bought a Fender Affinity Stratocaster for myself years ago ($200.00 usd) and never played it much. I'm starting to learn again and I find even a cheap guitar like this meets all my needs as a beginner. If he's competent on an acoustic guitar and generally sticks to what he started, then it would be a guitar he could have for many years to come. Something in the beginner to intermediate price range would probably be better. He can sort of figure out what sounds he likes and then build on that when he decides to purchase a guitar later down the road for himself.

Here's a deal on Schecter guitar I saw here on slickdeals.

Ibanez also makes a lot of great guitars in the $300.00 - $500.00 price range.

I've got a fleet of $3,000+ guitars I've collected over the past 20 years. Fenders, Gibson's, several Tom Anderson's, Josh Williams, etc.

I bought the Squier Classic Vibe 50's tele in butterscotch when it came up on Slickdeals a month or two ago. It's amazing and a joy to play, would definitely recommend as a first guitar. I'll never sell it, feels and sounds excellent. It's the only non-american made guitar I have and I usually wouldn't consider a gloss neck, but it's fast and not 'sticky' at all. I paid $270.61 all in from ProAudioStar, advertised as used, came brand new.

Obligatory (and incorrect) statement to just put the strings on it the other way around and it'll be a lefty. 😂

Never such a thing as too much guitar. He'll have this his entire life. It's one of my favorites. It will just be easier to play and sound better. It will also hold value much better than a made in Mexico.

I received my pro ii strat today. The box was absolutely destroyed - 3 gapping holes in the box, one was taped over the missing space. The ends of the box appear to be factory sealed?? Factory Styrofoam in place. I assume that adorama taped over the biggest whole in the box before it shipped.

The guitar however is pristine, hang tags still on it. It is a 2021 model with the 75th anniversary mark on the headstock. I was scared the guitar would be damaged as bad as the box looked but I guess the hardcase did its j9b.
