This is a $10 jug, the screws don't hold oil in but it works for what it is meant for, 1-2 oil changes max. The people writing bad reviews probably filled it to the top and expect plastic plugs with 2 turn threads to hold in the entire 10quarts.... Shocker it'll leak..
I've owned this for years, do not max it out and you'll be fine, great for a diy-er
It's guaranteed to splash if your car is using thinner oil such as 0w-20. Read the reviews. I'd just stick with the regular $3 drain pan and pour the old oil to any empty unused container then take it to the auto store for recycling. Or spend a couple more dollars for the larger capacity one. https://www.walmart.com/ip/209954607

Doesn't oil splash over the sides when it hits the top of this thing?
How do you store this without making a mess since the top will get oily?
I had a round version that made a mess when the oil draining out of my vehicle hit the surface. I cut the top off to make it a traditional looking catch pan. Problem solved.
I've been using one of these for years. Just to be safe I spread a piece of cardboard under it that's a few inches wider then the pan. This catches any unexpected slashes. So far I've never gotten oil on my driveway. This is while doing my 3 cars and the cars of friends and family.
The people complaining the oil overflows aren't opening the vent. Also the people complaining about the caps leaking are probably filling it completely. I just take it to recycle the oil after every change. I've never had issues with leakage doing this.
No just no. This thing will splash more oil on you and your driveway or garage then the Exxon Valdez. It truly is a horrible oil pan. Maybe ok for a small motorcycle or cooking grease but not for automotive use.
The only positive about the design of this junk is the drain plug and washer fall right on top and don't get dunked like a traditional pan but trust me it's not worth it.
If you want a mini environmental disaster or if you drive a Tesla and are nostalgic about your youthful days of diy lubricant changes then this may be for you.
I have one, used it once. It is indeed terrible. The sides are way too shallow. Unless you have a perfectly level driveway, you're going to have fluid spilling over the sides.

Works fine on my Hondas and Toyotas, but on a Subaru, the oil comes out so fast that the oil can't drain into the little hole in the tank fast enough. What a mess.
You can't beat a stainless hotel pan for this type of drain pan. They stack well, have a good lip to hold, and the corners allow you to pour very easily. Some carb/break clean cleans it right up.
due to the shallowness and depending on angle/force (especially if its hot) there is a good chance oil will ricochet off and create a huge mess. i used to use the cheap black $3 drain pan and switched to this one and its so much better not having to worry about oil splashing.

This is my recommendation as well - have a car that uses 0w-20 and it is splash city

I've used this one with good success:

.
It has 2 holes in the "drain hole area" in case your drain plug falls & blocks one of them. That can be fun.
