60K - 110K American Airline Points | $0-2500 spend | $0 annual fee for year 1

60k points - AAdvantage World Elite Mastercard from Barclays. Just for opening the card, and making a single purchase, you will earn 60,000 American Airlines miles. The card's $99 annual fee is even waived in your first year of card membership.

50K points - This card currently has a welcome offer bonus to earn 50,000 AAdvantage Miles after spending $2,500 within the three months of card membership. And the card's $99 annual fee is also waived for the first year of card membership.

https://citicards.citi.com/usc/LP...index.html

Put these two cards together, and spend just $2,500 on the other (the Citi Platinum Select World Elite card) in the first three months. Bam: You've got 110,000 American Airlines miles. All without paying an annual fee in your first year.

That's an easier (and cheaper) path to pile up more than 100,000 miles than you'll find with almost any other airline. Of course, it requires opening two credit cards and responsibly meeting the minimum spending requirement

I simply keep one of the low end AA card so my pts will not expire
You don't even have to keep an AA card. I converted to a Custom Cash instead (much more valuable) and added my cards to the AA dining program. You'll naturally hit one of their participating restaurants during the year without having to think about it and earn AA miles that will extend your points' expiry date by another 18 months.

Is the Barclay card once per lifetime?
That is what Barclay's terms and conditions say, but in practice, it is not enforced. I have gotten the bonus multiple times, along with my parents. I get the card every 4 years.

As someone who was shut down by American Airlines for "gaming the points system", I would advise anyone to take some time to think about this prior to opening two cards just to acquire the bonuses associated with them. The other side of this, if you have to use the recon with Barclays, good luck in any scenario.
I bet you were doing something more than just opening two cards at the same time-- have you booked several tickets for others with your points, or sold points, or applied for CC offer that was not intended for you? Please be transparent instead of spreading fear. Peace

I have same question. Everything I've found states that after first purchase and full payment of annual fee then the miles will post at bill cycle closing.

Not sure if this is the same since the annual fee is waived. My guess is after bill cycle, but an official answer would be better…

No, I reopen every 2 years or so, but some people do it more often. You can also open the business card for another 80k points
Do you cancel the card regularly and get the same card again?

Not the best offer from Citi, the public offer is now 60k points on $3k spend. Historic high was 75k points on $3.5 spend.

Shameful what people would do for referrals.

Could someone please advise on how easy it is to cancel their credit card? I mean can it be cancelled before the year ends, so that the annual fee isn't charged? Thanks.

AA is a mixed bag. being in Dallas its a good thing but not for everyone. DFW is the hub for AA so we get direct flights to europe etc.

It's easy to close your acct at anytime. However, it will affect your credit scores tremendously.

Just booked a California to London, and Switzerland back to California trip for 45,000 points and about $60 in taxes. Great opportunities are there if you are flexible with dates and destination. Lots of west coast to Morroco availability for 45,000 points roundtrip.

Got it. Thanks. Do the points get removed if you close your account?
Will they take back the 60k points (if unused) when you close your card before paying the annual fee?

I guess there is no option to downgrade the account like the chase United Explorer - where you can downgrade to the Basic Gateway card without the annual fee.
