Lots of people don't understand the unified memory. The 8/16/24GB memory is basically attached to the CPU in a single CPU package; it's a hardwired configuration and because of that the CPU is able to access the RAM much faster than via helper chips reaching external slots via copper/gold with less than "perfect" connections. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

$180 is therefore a more reasonable price for such an enhancement - it's high priced, yes, but pretend RAM's really expensive right now. I once paid $100 per meg, and I bought eight of them so I could play DOOM.

I am clueless, if i should buy this or not
same here. The question is even more complicated.

1. Buy/Not?
2. Buy base model?
3. Buy upgraded Ram?

Yeah I have the same issue, maybe because it is a pre-order? No clue.

Mine says:
Your payment authorization failed. Please verify your information and try again, or try another payment method.

Seems like you have to call in for them to fix it:

Or just pay $0.01 using other payment methods if your balance is more than the price of the item. This works for me recently when I was seeing the same issue initially

I have the same question because everything is all soc. Is the 16gb ram upgrades worth it? I'm an advanced user but I saw a couple reviews about the earlier gens and unless you were encoding to 8k while editing the extra was super overkill

I've been on the fence about getting a new mini for Intel compatibility but I'm really really on the fence about not grabbing the base model but I worry the space isn't enough for running vms/multiple vms

From the Apple product page:

"For wireless connectivity, both new models also feature the latest standards with Wi-Fi 6E for up to 2x faster throughput than before, as well as Bluetooth 5.3"

If I want to use Touch ID with a Mac Mini, is the Magic Keyboard my only option?
Probably. So the $200 accessory becomes necessary. Unless you know of a finger print Mac reader that is touchid compliant (and I doubt there are if any cheaper than that $200 keyboard from the 🍎 )

nothing is needed.
Last I heard they clamped down on everything and they were using a 3rd party to eval the student status but I may be a couple years out of date

Can you game on this? Through Steam games. I've only been a pc gamer.
Yes, but game support is horrible because Macs are small part of the PC market. Most game developers & publishers don't bother releasing games for MacOS.

If you are a PC gamer, you're stuck with Winblows.

Is adding 8 more ram for 180 worh it?
It's an awful price to pay, but it's not like you have an option to do it later. It's soldered to the board.
