Yep, Pole mounted. Even long reach boom mounted ones. Probably a few others.

Anyone thinking about the reciprocating saw should think hard about just getting a sawzall/general purpose reciprocating saw in their favorite tool brand with a pruning blade. I have a 10" blade on my Ryobi and it works great for limbs and things that don't warrant getting the gas saw out.

I have one of these. It's okay provided you accept what it is and what it is not. Most of the criticisms come from folks who want it to behave like a gas powered saw and not like a cheap light duty electric unit. As long as you don't try to saw through things larger than what this unit is mean for and, most importantly, let the saw do the work (there's a tendency to want to "muscle" these little electric chainsaws through the wood - I admit I'm guilty and always remind myself not to do this), they're handy little tools with very minimal maintenance requirements. This is a good buy if you have use for one.

Understanding that this is a cheap saw and that it'll be slow at bigger cuts, what is a reasonable expectation for the thickest limb/trunk that this would work for?

But then you wouldn't need the protection plan, you'd just return it as defective to the place you bought it.

A purchase protection plan on a $40 item seems like a giant hassle.
