Likely these are off-lease business laptops. Not TC'ing, just know what you're getting into.
I also don't understand the 'outdated' concept. An 8th gen i7 will do literally any task that 99.9999999% of computer users do today and for the next 5 years. And 32GB of RAM is a ridiculous amount for even a brand-new laptop. What are people doing with their computers that the above isn't enough? My only concern with this refurbished machine would be battery life.
Instead of buying a 2 year old used car for $12k you should instead buy a $36k new car because it's better.

I just upgraded to one stick of 8 GB RAM (after upgrading to Windows 10 in late Dec) to see if that would improve speed with Windows 10 - it did slightly, but still fairly slow (Chrome and Edge both use 50% of memory even with just a tab or 2 open). Was thinking of adding another 8GB, but now with the battery issues, won't do it.
I paid around $300 for this refurbished Latitude in 2016 (with some extra coupon discount), so I didn't buy the absolute cheapest refurbished Latitude out there. In some ways I know I'm lucky it's lasted this long ... but would like to get a few more years out of it.
So refurbished can be ok ... although it can also be hit or miss, as others have mentioned. And Dell standards can change over time.
Whether to buy refurbished depends in part on what your time is worth to you. And whether to buy an older generation chip depends how important multitasking is to you. An 8th gen chip might barely be ok now for minimal multitasking, but in a few years, might not be ok at all. Multitasking very important to me, but I had relegated this computer to one I only used for very limited purposes, so could live with its inability to multitask. It seems browsers these days are major memory hogs, and I think that's part of the problem I had with the computer ... before the very slow battery charge issue which just developed recently. (I've tried reconfiguring Chrome (following advice on various web pages) to reduce the memory demands, but it really hasn't had any effect.)
==========
There's probably some keyboard command to open the Admin version of WindowsPowerShell, but someone else will have to add that.
I'm trying to figure out now why it recently (about 14 days after updating to Windows 10 at end of Dec, from Windows 8.1 Pro) started charging the battery very very slowly - it takes hours to add a couple percent, and seems to max out in the low 70% of charge.
The battery report didn't help me, but it's easy to do, and I hadn't known about this. says design capacity is 38760 mWh, and full charge capacity is 28217 mWh ... so while there's been some loss, there's still theoretically capacity left.
If I knew for sure a new battery would fix the problem, I'd buy one (to get another couple years hopefully), but am hesitant, since others have said they tried this approach with no improvement.
I'm thinking the problem could in part be something to do with software or OS or something like that, but I'm at a loss as to how to fix it.
I've done everything suggested on various web pages to figure out why the charging issues.
If anyone has another suggestion, let me know.
Don't think it's the DC input since computer charges - albeit very slowly. (If I'm wrong here, please let me know, as replacing the DC input is the cheapest option to try to fix this.)
If I knew for sure replacing the battery would fix
Did everything suggested on these (and other) pages)
Edit: This tells you a bit: https://www.pcmag.com/news/which-...e-i5-vs-i7 The answer is: Whether there's much of a difference depends ....
It has 32 gigs of ram, infrared hello unlock, touch screen, usbc charging, backlit keyboard, a 256 nvme ssd and looks like it's never been touched.
A killer deal for a kick around laptop that we can use around the house. Thanks!!
Damn, guess I should have waited. I got a 7490 but it has a traditional power brick charger and it's a a SATA 256gb SSD
edit: apparently all the 7490's can be charged with USB-C
https://fossbytes.com/powercfg-ch...using-cmd/
It doesn't really answer your question, but it does give you yet another command to look into power issues. (powercfg /energy ... note that at link above, they omitted the space before the forward slash ... you need to add a space)
I'd suggest using google to find your answer. At the very least, the command allows you to determine whether a newly shipped computer from Dell is at least charging to 80% of original capacity. If it's not, Dell should give you a replacement.

When someone makes one of these threads they should link to a search and not to a direct product. Just click on Laptops, then on the left go down and change it to 32 GB. Most of the time you will not even see it as a checkbox option, if it only shows 8 and 16 then the item is sold out. You have to sit there all day and refresh to catch them when they show up.

I upgraded RAM to 16GB and NVME 500GB drive. Also ran air through processor fan to remove some debris. Removed Intel controller software, via BIOS, it was in RAID for some reason, and used AHCI instead. Checked battery date code and ran all the checks listed for health report. Updated all drivers and firmware. Running really well so far.
Day 7 or so. Keeping an eye on temperatures. As others have said it's a bit of a lottery but so far I am happy with my purchase pending something I have not spotted such as system stability.
Edit:
I was on Outlet my mistake. What confused me was the coupon kept saying no longer available.
It also has an additional M.2 3042 Key-B slot for the WWAN which can take an MSATA ssd. Make sure you get the right msata ssd for this slot as this is NOT a regular m2 sata slot!
there is no 2.5in slot so you will never get a spinny drive inside a 5300 laptop. It's just not possible!

5300 really doesn't have any 2.5in slot! AFAIK, there is no spinny m2 HDD.
