Just got the one I ordered yesterday from this deal.
Was able to use Firebox to debloat all the Amazon stuff even with the updated FireOS it installs when you first turn it on. So confirmed that it still works.
So good to go here.

So almost 2 years old. Doesn't support the latest Fire OS 8.x.x that's there for the 8" inch version of the newer tablet. Plus above commenter tells me with ADs. to top it all off, crippled Android without Play Store and a mess of an interface.

Umm… No thanks!

From the pages of XDA:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FIREOS 7.3.2.2+ AND THE TOOLBOX (PLEASE READ)

If your tablet is running FireOS 7.3.2.2 or above please note that some functions of the Toolbox may not work due to new restrictions in the new firmware. The following tools either do not work or have limited functionality:

• OTA Updates - OTAs can no longer be disabled.
• Manage Amazon Apps - Some system apps can no longer be disabled.

We're looking into workarounds to the issues detailed above. Please keep an eye on the forum for further development.

This is easily hackable to be a full Android tablet using Firebox Toolkit.
I've done it 4x for my kids.
Need another one as one of them just broke the screen and to replace is it almost the same price as buying a new one.
Thanks OP!

Trade in of the 2019 fire 10=$30
And you get 20% off a new fire tablet =$17? On this one.
So in theory you could be $38+tax?
Only issue is you send the trade first so maybe the $85 price is gone by the time the discounts come in..... anyone have an experience to share on how this would work?

You can try to check. Sometimes they give "instant credit" and you have send your tablet in. However, it won't be as cheap as you think. There is tax plus recycling fee so turns out to be more close to like $50 plus trade-in.

I personally don't think upgrading from 2019 to 2021 is worth the close to 50 bucks spend if the old tablet is working fine.

FYI -- I submitted a trade-in and was immediately given a $20 credit and 20% off the new tablet. I then went in and canceled the trade-in and they charged my card the $20, but not the 20% ($17). So, YMMV but you could potentially get the tablet for $68.

Yeah that's what always sucks about these deals. I have to send my tablet in a while sooner or hope the price lasts long enough for them to process it which I haven't seen them last longer than a few days. So either I'm without my comic reader for a few months or I pay the extra and then sell my old one out right.

I miss the instant trade in they use to do, actually made my 2017 to 2019 worth it. Old one worked but I wanted USB c to have less cables dangling at my bedside

They still do instant credit based on your history of the account. Just depends.

I just bought one of these (2 months ago) for $75, and the Fire Toolbox worked fine... stripping the ads, much of the crapware, enabling installation of Google Play store, etc. A solid piece of hardware for the cost. It commonly goes on sale for $75.

You will get a credit at the time of purchase. You will have so many days to ship your trade-in. They will also verify upon receiving you actually shipped what you traded in. How closely they check I can't say.

Yah, I don't believe you,.

Tool box no longer disables Amazon nor does it stop the adds.

It'll feel like it's working when you first use the toolbox but on newer releases of FireOS, Amazon FireOS will force enable and restart certain system services on a reboot; for instance the OTA service.

Got mine, ran Toolbox, and it sideloaded Google Play Store and removed the ads and bloatware. We shall see if it sticks. The Toolbox supposedly has an alternative way to disable OTA updates.
