Personally, unless you're a college student, I'd try to get something with local dimming that you're gonna use everyday, since edge lit in 2023 isn't that fun.
Hisense u6hf on Amazon has hit $350 a couple times lately at 58", I bought that recently and think it's a much better deal -7". To each their own of course.
Rings for the TCL vs hisense. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/c...eshold=0.2

The problem with edge lit + low brightness is the TV does not have a contrast range. You can't overcome high lighting, and you can't distinguish similar shades...
The hisense has straight up better technology, quantum dots, local dimming, high brightness, high contrast.
And anyone who's buying this tcl TV should not act like they are too concerned about panel lottery..
"The problem with edge lit"
Uhm, it's direct lit.

Also Howard's has the 65" Series 5 on sale (in store only) for $399. Link for reference:

If you can't get the Series 4 for $228 at Walmart, may want to pay $30 more and get the Series 5 instead.
1. I have used this in 65 for a few years now. .. they seem to improve every year or so but not sure if they keep using same model # or changes with the upgrades.. my tv has a thicker bezel but the new ones I see on display have thin nicer clean bezel top and sides.
2. These do not have the best picture BUT.. the picture will satisfy MANY if not all.. bright enough, crisp enough, good enough color reproduction. If your TV is 1080p. Don't hesitate to upgrade to this.
3. Those looking for gaming or best picture for movies/sports have to pay 2x or more $ on Sony/LG/Samsung
4. My wife loves our 65 TCL ROKU (friendly responsive interface) in our living room but she hates the newer 70 Samsung in our bedroom even though picture is better. Samsung trying to steer / trip / direct you into their OS is annoying.
5. I love a great picture .. man I do. believe me.. I can watch tv theater rooms for hours.. but why I settle for lesser picture TVs is because TVs are now smart TVs and operating systems hold a greater weight in decision.. would you be happy with the best tv picture but the menu interface lagged and was not user friendly.. or after 3 years they stopped updating OS?
6. Will you be ok paying thousands for a high end 4k TV .. if 8K budget TVs with latest OS with larger screens come out next year at half the price?
7. I would rather get a new bigger TV every few years and "hand down" TVs to kids rooms and rotate to room locations.
GL everyone..happy shopping

Chinese VS Chinese🤔
Got that $200 BB 55" and it's been great so far. I go between a 77" lg oled in the living room and the TCL 5 55" in my office - like with the football game yesterday, and don't really think about the change.
If people look on best budget TV lists, for the price, the 4 series is usually #1 or #2. If you look at best bang for your buck lists, usually it is TCL 6 series. That does not mean either has the best of everything, but the 4 series typically offers more than the competition for the price. People saying to go with Samsung or something, compare a Samsung for this size/price… With the 6 series, it becomes a question of if the increased price paid is worth the improvements. Sites like digital trends, rtings, etc. typically suggest it is diminishing returns after the 6 series or the Hisense U8H. That doesn't mean a $5k OLED looks worse, but it won't look 5x or more times better given the difference in costs.

Ya you're right. They don't really edge light big tv's nowadays. But direct lit vs edge lit is the same problem, tv shines one big "always on" light at the full array of pixels, which is gonna kill blacks and hurt contrast... This is why local dimming (basically a bunch of dimming zones than can turn on and off) was a big advancement awhile back.
