Is this an adequate replacement for my failing 980ti? Maybe I should opt for the 6700xt that is on sale? I'm a little lost on what will be at least as good as the 980ti?

There's links to Tom's and TechPowerUp to give you answers.

Tom's has them at 40 and 57 fps at 1440p. So the 1080 isn't a bad deal.
Thanks, the numbers look comparable, obviously RX 6600 and 6650 are better, but I'm not sure if it's worth double the cost. That's really what I'm asking.

Depend on your metrics. The 1080 is a better deal on a FPS/$, but you are a bit aways from 60FPS at high quality.

Obligatory "You won't get the rebate".

Newegg needs to stop this bullshit, but people need to stop falling for it too.
I've gotten every single newegg rebate I've submitted. First one I let expire. I learned my lesson and instantly buy amazon gift card when I get them now.

the rebate is offered by the mfr - NOT Newegg, get a clue
Amazon just doesn't bother to post the rebate in some cases where it's available if folks looked for it.

How does this compare to GTX 1080 non Ti for $140?

I have been seeing it for that price on hardware swap, mostly want to play in 1440p. I am getting back into PC gaming.

After tax this would be double the price. I realize it has RSR which can be useful for newer games.
Unless you're certain you'll only play old games for a while, I don't recommend a GTX 1080 for 1440p. It's only on par with the RX 5600 XT, RTX 2060 etc which are being used for 1080p https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-s...080.c2839. One of the GPUs in my household is in this class and is just enough for 1080p ultrawide gaming. Also keep in mind that the GPU is nearly 7 years old at this point and may need new paste, thermal pads etc.

For modern games, the cheapest last gen GPUs that are likely to work decently are the RX 6700 (10gb) and RX 6700 XT (12 GB). RX 5700 XT used is a solid deal too, but you'll need to make tradeoffs soon, if not immediately. If you decide to go with an RX 5700 XT, be sure to look up reviews and try to find thermals for it too. The 5700 XT was priced well but the various models were a bit hit-or-miss in terms of quality and thermals. Given how cheap they are, it'd be wise to spend a few bucks more on a good model like the Sapphire Nitro, XFX Thicc III etc.

That's cool. They still don't show up. Been waiting on an MSI Mobo rebate for over 6 months.

Get a clue.

well you should check status to see what you did wrong, probably did not send in the entire UPC /SN panel like the instruction say. their site site should show status Roll Eyes (Sarcastic), you're saying they had rebates in July laugh out loud?

Thanks both. I ended up going for 6600XT on Hardware Swap. It was $200, should be arriving next week. The regular 6600 is going for about $180, so I figured it was worth the extra $20 to get 6600XT. I know there is a 6650XT now, but I didn't want to spend closer to $300 after taxes.

My goal is to play most older games at 1440p, and newer games at 1080p upscaled using FSR/RSR if necessary.

I picked up a RX 5700 XT for $160, seeing how I could live without RT for a while.
