Or it just fits their needs. Not sure why so many strangers fight to validate their likes and dislikes. Buy what you like because your needs or experiences will never be the exact same as mine.
But I would not even consider a Mac for gaming, virtualization, homelab usage. Macs are just a less versatile ecosystem.
Please note PC here does not mean Windows only. It could mean a host running VMware proxmox or Arch.
For laptop usage I would still prefer the mbp mainly for the relative performance for every unit of battery life
Ryzen 3600/DS3H 450m wifi deal microcenter $130, 32gb ddr4 memory $80, RX 6650 xt $260, 1tb ssd $60, Power supply/PSU ~ $100. The total cost $630 but at least you can upgrade in the future and this has better gaming experience than this PC.
Plus a case and OS. Now you're at $700 or so. Building will get you more performance for the money but you lose out on efficiency and size.
I've mentioned about a decent case and power supply for $100. I recall that you can get an crappy case and psu for $50 at newegg, now at $70. You can get a windows license for about $20, but you can essentially get them for free if you get a serial # from an old corp pc.

With that said, my BIL works for a university where one of his roles is to admin/service all of their Mac stuff. He himself only uses Apple products, so his house usually has many laptops just hanging around at any given time. They just work and he loves them. I don't think he could ever be convinced to choose a W machine of an M.
Lucky me, a couple of years ago he sold me his first-gen iPad Pro w/ Magic Keyboard for dirt cheap. I still use it to play some games and watch videos, which is too light of use to spend money on a newer Pro. It's also running the latest iOS, so…
Finally, my daughter is still using her first-gen iPad Mini (that one was given to her older brother before she was even born by the same BIL). I think it's on iOS 9.3.5, but it plays some learning games (eg Daniel Tiger) and things like Netflix, PBS Kids and a dozen others. I'm astonished it's still working and the battery life is as good as it is after all of the abuse; it's dropped often and run dead often.
Choose what works for you. If you've had a bad experience with PC, it might have been that make (I don't like HP for crap they pulled a decade ago - grudges are common with tech). I've had excellent luck with Dells. The same can't be said for Apple. If you're the rare person who has a bad experience there, not much choice in the Mac world. I've had excellent luck with my iPhones, but don't own any of their laptop or desktop machines.

You are picking the one example where it works against Intel. I can give you many examples of the opposite. The 2nd gen Intel from 2011 got its service from 2011 to 2025, 14 years. The 8th gen Intel is from 2018 to 2031, or 13 years.
Plus with PC you can get unofficial updates or run Linux. With Mac it is much harder to get unofficial updates.
