You'll definitely get better CPU performance but will be stuck with Intel Iris Xe 96EU graphics which is significantly slower than the RDNA 2 based Raseon 680M graphics. On top of that, in this one, you can add an external GPU using the USB4 port whereas the other model you've referred, doesn't even have a USB4/Thunderbolt 4 port. Check the detailed specification. So, there is no normal way of adding any thunderbolt accessories or external GPU unless you want to go with some DIY methods of using M.2 to PCIe X16 converter, separate PSU to power the GPU and loosing the capability of using any PCIe SSD.
Note: Although the USB4 port is mentioned to be 20Gbps one, it is actually a full 40 Gbps Port and has been tested with external GPU docks. YouTuber ETA Prime has already tested this model.

Ecosystem that charges exorbitant money for extra memory/storage and does not allow users to upgrade those on their own, okay!

I have a good mix of Mac and PCs. A PC is just more versatile. For laptop usage that does not include gaming I think a MacBook Air would be fine. Which is what I have. For my dev work, I just remote into one of my workstations running windows or Linux virtualized.
But I would not even consider a Mac for gaming, virtualization, homelab usage. Macs are just a less versatile ecosystem.
Please note PC here does not mean Windows only. It could mean a host running VMware proxmox or Arch.

For laptop usage I would still prefer the mbp mainly for the relative performance for every unit of battery life

This is fantastic. SFF and a fast i9 processor with a modest price. Just what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing that.

Nothing about this PC and form factor but you simply can't upgrade it beyond the ram and ssd. I've had a couple of small form factor pc's and they are simply collecting dust. Here's what I can get for a better gaming experience.

Ryzen 3600/DS3H 450m wifi deal microcenter $130, 32gb ddr4 memory $80, RX 6650 xt $260, 1tb ssd $60, Power supply/PSU ~ $100. The total cost $630 but at least you can upgrade in the future and this has better gaming experience than this PC.

Plus a case and OS. Now you're at $700 or so. Building will get you more performance for the money but you lose out on efficiency and size.

I've mentioned about a decent case and power supply for $100. I recall that you can get an crappy case and psu for $50 at newegg, now at $70. You can get a windows license for about $20, but you can essentially get them for free if you get a serial # from an old corp pc.

I don't know why I'm participating in the Mac vs Windows debate, but: my Dell XPS is still going strong with its first-gen core i7 (Nehalem) and DDR3 RAM. I replaced the PSU, HDD (w/ SSD), and GPU (1070 ti) due to want, not need over the years. It's running W10 and I can play all of my old games on high settings, such as Crysis 2 (what what what!? Lol) and Fallout 4. Modern Civ games get bogged down pretty heavily in late game with large maps and many Civs, but that's fine. I mean, I play Civ 6 (Vanilla) on my iPhone, so you know I'm kind of insane and can't be trusted. Wink

With that said, my BIL works for a university where one of his roles is to admin/service all of their Mac stuff. He himself only uses Apple products, so his house usually has many laptops just hanging around at any given time. They just work and he loves them. I don't think he could ever be convinced to choose a W machine of an M.

Lucky me, a couple of years ago he sold me his first-gen iPad Pro w/ Magic Keyboard for dirt cheap. I still use it to play some games and watch videos, which is too light of use to spend money on a newer Pro. It's also running the latest iOS, so…

Finally, my daughter is still using her first-gen iPad Mini (that one was given to her older brother before she was even born by the same BIL). I think it's on iOS 9.3.5, but it plays some learning games (eg Daniel Tiger) and things like Netflix, PBS Kids and a dozen others. I'm astonished it's still working and the battery life is as good as it is after all of the abuse; it's dropped often and run dead often.

Choose what works for you. If you've had a bad experience with PC, it might have been that make (I don't like HP for crap they pulled a decade ago - grudges are common with tech). I've had excellent luck with Dells. The same can't be said for Apple. If you're the rare person who has a bad experience there, not much choice in the Mac world. I've had excellent luck with my iPhones, but don't own any of their laptop or desktop machines.

Yeah, I'd like to know why that was yanked. I commented on that deal and wanted to get back to the discussion, but the thread was gone.
They also deleted my link in this thread. They claim that the Amazon seller doesn't have enough reviews, but it's MUCH safer and cheaper to buy thru Amazon than thru the Bee-link website. SD appears to be putting their profits first and smothering valid alternatives. One suspicion that immediately comes to mind is that OP is not an unaffiliated SD user. How can anyone trust deals posted here?

Looks cool but I'll put that money towards mac mini

After telling me my 5 year old i7 quad with 32gb ram is unable to upgrade to windows 11, that put me in a f Windows going forward mood.

Went from Android to IOS after the fiasco with Pixel 6 pro, just moving into an ecosystem that updates hardware longer since I tend to keep my devices longer.
MacOS doesn't have forever updates either. A MacBook 2014 is stuck on Catalina and lost the ability to get security updates last August. That makes it 8 years of updates from the time of introduction.

Your i7 will get Windows 10 officially until October 2025, so a bit less than 3 more years for a total of 8. About the same as the MacBook.

You are picking the one example where it works against Intel. I can give you many examples of the opposite. The 2nd gen Intel from 2011 got its service from 2011 to 2025, 14 years. The 8th gen Intel is from 2018 to 2031, or 13 years.

Plus with PC you can get unofficial updates or run Linux. With Mac it is much harder to get unofficial updates.

The last time I used a weaker CPU to run a 24hr Minecraft server was only a few months ago.

So you'd rather buy a computer from a company that even let you upgrade the hard drive, cuz you're salty over an effectively cosmetic OS upgrade. Brilliant...

When W10 stops providing updates for my PC I'll switch to Linux…if it's still even operable by then!

I'm waiting to see what Strix Point brings in 2024-2025, but this deal looks excellent. Only criticisms I can think of are that the RAM is on the slow side and there's no external antennae for Wi-Fi. SSD you should just roll with until you need a new one.

Linux as a desktop OS is basically where it was 20 years ago and no doubt it'll be in the same state 20 years from now. That's what happens when you don't pay anyone to improve it.
FUD. Linux desktops are better than ever, people are paid to improve it, and there are paid distros for noobs.
