What about money? Is money not a valid reason in your book? If so, can you lend me the extra $2500 to get an 83" OLED? I'll take itunes gift cards in lieu of cash. I won't complain about it actually being a couple inches smaller.
When deciding between this TV and the 86" LG deals, one of the biggest differences is panel type. The LG's use an IPS panel which provides a better viewing angle, but at the cost of contrast ratio. Samsung 85" Crystal models typically use a VA panel which has the opposite characteristics. I suspect the TU690T to be no different.
That's like saying "there's no reason to get a car that's not a Ferrari or Bentley unless you're only looking for a way to get around town and don't care about how you look". That makes sense right?? Not every consumer has an extra $4-5K for an 85" TV and will be completely satisfied with this model because it is within their budget.

The TU690T series is a 2022 line that is quietly being supplanted by the older TU7000. Best Buy and Walmart are about the only major retailers still carrying this line. The warehouse chains, Target, and most notably, Amazon do not have it. The reasons why are unclear. I would caution people not to jump to the conclusion that it's a reliability issue. It could be a patent/royalty issue, component price/availability issue, hardware issue that permits future exploitation, either by consumers or hackers, etc.

This TV is considered an entry level or base model TV. It has a picture quality which the vast majority of Americans are happy with.

If you feel you are fussy about picture quality, consider going to the next step up, a QLED. Be prepared to pay at least 50% more for a QLED TV of this size, albeit not a premium brand. If you aren't married to this particular size, there are currently other deals posted on this website for 75" QLED's for $700 & up. If you want to stick with the Samsung brand, a 75" QLED puts you back at $1000.

For the non fussy, there are actually some competing choices right now at this pricepoint. The LG 86" UQ75 is also available for the same price at Best Buy and elsewhere. Costco members can get the very similar 86" UQ8000 for the same price with a free extended warranty.

There are two main differences between the Samsung and LG's. The first is panel type. The LG's use an IPS panel which has a wide viewing angle but has a lower contrast ratio. The Samsung has a VA panel, which delivers a higher contrast ratio, most notably blacker blacks, but it is at the expense of viewing angle. The second difference is that the LG has a higher refresh rate. A higher refresh rate is prized by gamers but is actually desirable for watching any content that includes fast motion, such as sports or action movies.

Not sure if this is the specific model they're referencing, but Costco has an LG 86" for $999.

It says 120hz, but honestly there's no reason to get a big TV that's not QLED or OLED in 2023 unless you're only looking for a big screen and don't care about picture quality.

This TV is pretty mediocre, washed out picture along with wobble screen due to cheap, thin plastic housing. It's still a decent buy if you want big and cheap.
