Just make sure you tweak picture settings (at a min, take it off eco mode), and my guess is you will be pleasantly happy. That advice holds for whatever TV people buy - they usually come on a power saving mode that impact brightness.

Also more interested in the 55 inch for $380. Maybe the 65 inch but I would be using the stand not wall mount and might be too big for my TV stand
As somebody who has the 55 inch 5 series, this TV is definitely better than M series Vizios now imo.

1. TCL 55S555 (22.7 or 42.3 X 11.0 inches)
2. TCL 65S555 (27.0 or 50.2 X 12.8 inches)
3. TCL 75S555 (27.8 or 57.3 X 15.2 inches)

Really?! My 5 series from 2020 supports Dolby Atmos
I was strongly considering this for the living room, but no Dolby Atmos is gonna kill it for me. The difference between Atmos and no Atmos even on a low end sound bar makes a massive difference imo.
Going from something on Netflix with Atmos compatibility like stranger things to something that's non Atmos is almost jarring at times.
For reference, I have a mediocre TCL soundbar with a wireless sub. perfect for small apartment living. It's not like I have a real home theater setup to notice the difference.
I will also note the stock speakers on my 5 series are awful, but to be expected.

My guess is because the idea of paying for name brand is not always a sound choice, given the price.
Am I crazy to pass this deal for the A80J anyways? Pls tell me your opinion.
Yes, you are crazy. The A80-90J is an OLED. Not in the same realm as this set. No one is cross shopping this TCL 5 series to an OLED.
Here is the correct comparison, with the Sony X80j.

And yes, you would be crazy to get the Sony over this. Like you said you would be paying for the brand name and getting a much crappier set.
Hisense u6h 75 inch panel is IPS of I remember right. This is VA and should be better.

Maybe you can still get Atmos through Soundbar, it is just the TV is not able to decode Atmos. Not 100% sure about that.

Oops I meant u6h. U7h is VA.
