I kept going back and forth between the Onkyo, Denon, and Yamaha for a new receiver and so I did a ton of research. The Onkyo 6050, the Denon 760h and Yamaha TSR-700(the Costco trinity) all have some variety of HDMI board issues, that were corrected to varying degrees of success with later hardware and/or firmware updates, so as part of that process, I talked to a local hifi store owner about higher end models that might not have those issues. I brought up the Onkyo RZ50 and he put it like this, "Onkyo is now owned by Sharp. In 35 years of selling hifi equipment I have never known Sharp to make a high quality product." That stopped me from considering the TX-RZ50.

Of the Costco trinity, consensus was that the Denon worked the best, but sounded the worst. The Yamaha sounded the best, but people still could never get it to work with HDMI for 4k/120hz or VRR. The Onkyo has the prettiest menus, was the easiest to setup, and has the nicest features(2x hdmi out). The Onkyo sounded slightly better than the Denon, but still noticeably worse than the Yamaha, and was the least reliable. I like products that work and are reliable, so I landed on Denon.

Is this worth twice the price of the Yamaha RX-V385 5.1-Channel Surround Sound 4K Ultra HD AV Receiver w/ Bluetooth that's at Best Buy right now for $200?

https://slickdeals.net/f/16398097-yamaha-rx-v385bl-5-1-channel-surround-sound-4k-ultra-hd-av-receiver-w-bluetooth-200-free-shipping

edit: I would only be connecting a 5.1 system to it at this point in time since my living space is pretty small. I assume I should save that extra $200 and go with the Yamaha?

I've had both happen to me in the past. What I did once on a different deal was bought the new one and then left/got back in the return line and said it was the old one - that way you're not having to repack/return an opened item that they're now stuck with.

Heads up that this receiver does NOT have Audyssey MultEQ XT32. Per the Denon website it has MultEQ, two tiers below XT32.
This is why I probably have to get a higher tier like the 3500 etc.

The only thing that seems better about the Denon is it being Denon (some people claim Onkyo has problems). Personally I got the Onkyo AVR because it has 2 HDMI outs, more features, 15+ more watts per channel and a much, much better menu interface to navigate setup

I bought the Yamaha RX-V6A about a year and a half ago from Costco. I continually had issues where the amp wouldn't sync with the the tv input when it was turned on, resulting in 10-15 minutes of trouble shooting every time.

Returned it after about a year and got this Denon for around the same price. For reference, I have a 5-speaker Klipsch system with a sub, PS5, Apple TV and cable box all hooked up to it and have had no issues in the 6 months or so that I've used it.

That's exactly what I did. I have the 2400 in the living room for TV and general music listening, and bought a used 3500 (before prices skyrocketed) to use in a rec room for more critical music listening. Is there a difference between the Audyssey XT of the 2400 and XT32 of the 3500? Hell if I know bc they are in different rooms with different speakers, but they both sound pretty good to me and the difference between Audyssey on and off for both is substantial.

The wattage is a little low at only 75w per channel. I prefer at least 100-110w per channel. The clarity difference is noticeable.

You're right about the power, though it's subjective based on your needs and environment. I got the Denon during the fall Costco sale. Overall, very happy with it, though I don't run a full theater speaker system. It does a good job on streamed theater, cds, dvds, vinyl, and broadcast sound. I run 4ohm speakers. There is definitely a cap on the power output. It does get loud, but not killer power loud. It's loud enough that my wife wants me to turn it down. Some music (heavy base) will clip when maxed. The phono preamp is weaker than I'd like, but gets close to the job. I'm not complaining, just reporting. I replaced a 30 year old Denon receiver with it. The app functions are okay. Depending on what you want/like, this might work for you. Want max power and lots of headroom, get out your wallet. It'll cost you double or more.

Do you know (and I assume it does) if this has a stereo mode for playing music in a "stereo" mode through the front and rears? I had another soundbar (a high-end one) and when playing it either would only play music through the front left/right or if you wanted it through the rear satellites it would try to "surround sound" it which was it's attempt to grab just the background music but not the vocals so of course it sounded bad.
I saw someone else replied to you and it wasn't definitive. I have this receiver with a 5.0 setup. I'll try to test it later today to see if I can run the two front towers and two rears in a non-surround stereo and will see if I can run all 5 in stereo. Tentatively I want to say yes, it can do what you're asking.

I had this AVR and wasn't impressed, bought it twice actually and couldn't get it to sound "right". The issue I think is with Audyssey. You can run two calibrations back to back and get different results. I got a Sony STR DN1080 instead and couldn't be happier. It sounds so much better than the Denon.

I recently got it at $499 from Costco - will they do price match or should I return and buy new ?
How long ago? You can return up to 90 days. They probably won't do the price match.

I have an oddly shaped living room where the Denon S760H is and I am quite happy with it. My primary purpose of going with Denon was the Multieq XT32. I run Audyssey using the app and the difference it makes to room correction etc is quite phenomenal. HeOS was the second reason .

Also to people commenting on getting the receiver for $250 or lower. That was a ymmv deal. I tried in 4 different costco when the thread was active and I had no luck.
This only has basic Audyssey.

I use the multieq paid app. It does a 6 point measurement for the speakers and I am satisfied with the results. The app is worth it in my opinion.

Thank you - is it fine to only connect a 5.1 speaker set to this until a future date if I ever want to add two more speakers?
Yep, I have an older but similar 7.1 Receiver. I never added rear Speakers, but used the 7 channel capacity to run stereo speakers out to the Patio. Still can do 5.1 in the house if I wanted

Have used all 3 of them from Costco, 200% agree, Yamaha sounds the best, Onkyo has good features but not really reliable and i ran into some CEC issues and loose HDMI ports (quality), Denon is a little underpowered and lesser features than the Yamaha or Onkyo, but works reliably every time it is switched on.
