The Onkyo has the prettiest menus, was the easiest to setup, and has the nicest features(2x hdmi out). The Onkyo sounded slightly better than the Denon, but still noticeably worse than the Yamaha, and was the least reliable. I like products that work and are reliable, so I landed on Denon.

I bought the Yamaha RX-V6A about a year and a half ago from Costco. I continually had issues where the amp wouldn't sync with the the tv input when it was turned on, resulting in 10-15 minutes of trouble shooting every time.

Returned it after about a year and got this Denon for around the same price. For reference, I have a 5-speaker Klipsch system with a sub, PS5, Apple TV and cable box all hooked up to it and have had no issues in the 6 months or so that I've used it.

That's exactly what I did. I have the 2400 in the living room for TV and general music listening, and bought a used 3500 (before prices skyrocketed) to use in a rec room for more critical music listening. Is there a difference between the Audyssey XT of the 2400 and XT32 of the 3500? Hell if I know bc they are in different rooms with different speakers, but they both sound pretty good to me and the difference between Audyssey on and off for both is substantial.

The wattage is a little low at only 75w per channel. I prefer at least 100-110w per channel. The clarity difference is noticeable.

You're right about the power, though it's subjective based on your needs and environment. I got the Denon during the fall Costco sale. Overall, very happy with it, though I don't run a full theater speaker system. It does a good job on streamed theater, cds, dvds, vinyl, and broadcast sound. I run 4ohm speakers. There is definitely a cap on the power output. It does get loud, but not killer power loud. It's loud enough that my wife wants me to turn it down. Some music (heavy base) will clip when maxed. The phono preamp is weaker than I'd like, but gets close to the job. I'm not complaining, just reporting. I replaced a 30 year old Denon receiver with it. The app functions are okay. Depending on what you want/like, this might work for you. Want max power and lots of headroom, get out your wallet. It'll cost you double or more.

edit: I would only be connecting a 5.1 system to it at this point in time since my living space is pretty small. I assume I should save that extra $200 and go with the Yamaha?

I had this AVR and wasn't impressed, bought it twice actually and couldn't get it to sound "right". The issue I think is with Audyssey. You can run two calibrations back to back and get different results. I got a Sony STR DN1080 instead and couldn't be happier. It sounds so much better than the Denon.

I use the multieq paid app. It does a 6 point measurement for the speakers and I am satisfied with the results. The app is worth it in my opinion.

Yep, I have an older but similar 7.1 Receiver. I never added rear Speakers, but used the 7 channel capacity to run stereo speakers out to the Patio. Still can do 5.1 in the house if I wanted

Have used all 3 of them from Costco, 200% agree, Yamaha sounds the best, Onkyo has good features but not really reliable and i ran into some CEC issues and loose HDMI ports (quality), Denon is a little underpowered and lesser features than the Yamaha or Onkyo, but works reliably every time it is switched on.
