The $30 closing fee only applies to 'Charged Off' accounts AKA accounts in delinquency. There should be no fee (that I can see in their fee schedules) for closing an account. You should be plenty fine to just close the account after you get the promo cash.

I got this as well, but then I copied the link into a private/incogneto window, and it went through to an enrollment screen without saying it was expired. I'm guessing the referral url from slickdeals is causing issues. Try again in a private window.

You will get a 1099 for this at the end of the year. It is considered interest income. So you will have to report it and pay IRS their share. We forgot to file this kind of checking account bonus one year and got a letter from IRS and audit.

Is fairly common even for international students… they get their money withhold and need to do taxes, only difference is they rarely get anything back regardless of how much was withheld more commonly they need to pay more in top of what was withheld. So yeah international workers pay probably more taxes than the richest persons in the country.
