It's supposed to switch automatically for different devices but unfortunately that was not my experience. Eero even has a troubleshooting option to temporarily only enable 2.4ghz but that did not work either. Almost gave up until I thought of the idea to try my old AirPort Express router.

I don't get it. If the device talks only 2.4 and the router talks both 2.4 and 5 at the same time, so what's the problem?

I have the wifi 6 version of this and the performance was poor.
Signal could not penetrate through thick walls and the speed at my 4th one was a 10th of my 1gig max speed.
Switched to orbi with 3 total units and the speed is 75% of max in the same location.

Any way to force these to run only 2.4ghz? I recently set up a chamberlain smart garage opener but it only seemed to work when I set up a 2.4ghz only guest network on my AirPort Express connected into my eero pro 6e. I've run into issues with other legacy devices requiring only 2.4ghz so a permanent network for these devices would be great.

Yup, my chamberlain dictated which routers I can buy and I ended up with Asus xt8. Separate channels for 2.4 and 5.

You go into eero app..

Settings
Troubleshooting
My device won't connect
My device is 2.4 GHz only

And click button
Temporarily pause 5Ghz

This should force 2.4 so that you can get your device connected, hopefully updated so by the time the 15 minute timer is up, it's all good

Won't be an issue after you get it connected this first time

Also side note, all the IOT type devices in my house, light switches, plugs, cams, thermostats, I put them all on the guest network

They all just connect back to cloud interface so no need for them to be on my local network

Only thing on my network is my phone, laptops, pc's, tv streamers

I heard wifi 6+ is the way to go, unsure why the plain wifi 6 is terrible

I had this wifi 5 version and it worked great, for $84 bucks I think it's a good deal even todays time

In fact when I got my eero pro 6, I added it to the same mesh as these wifi 5 devices. And together they worked really well.

The. I traded the wifi 5 in for deal with Wifi Pro 6E and then again added them to existing mesh, all worked fine together

This is what sold me on Eero, as Google does not work the same way

The previous gen google wifi does not work in the same mesh as the new ones, at least this is what I read , unsure if they fixed that with software by now.

6+ shows $299 on best buys site!!

I had responded to another comment that I did switch it to 2.4ghz in troubleshooting and it still did not work. It only worked with the AirPort Express as I was able to split the two bands permanently and connected to 2.4ghz. I'm not sure if you've used Chamberlain but it's been the one that has been extremely picky with networks. Tried troubleshooting for about 2 hours with eero to no avail. Eero needs to allow for more granular control, but other than this have had no issues with most of my other devices.

It'd be awesome if eero allowed splitting of bands. I was so used to be able to doing it with all of my previous routers but I'm still holding out some hope eero will add this in a future update.

Sorry I missed that..

My cousin had same issue with eufy internal cam, was able to get it on google… updated it but when said what did was put it practically on the eero physically.. wonder if you take one of the devices and put it in your garage, as close as possible to the chamberlain , if it would make a difference.. a weird step but maybe worth a try

Ultimately I may just end up leaving it how it is. I'll leave my AirPort Express running a 2.4ghz network for devices that have issues with eero. Not too much of an inconvenience but eero can easily resolve this by allowing a guest network to run on the band we select. The AirPort Express is over 10 years and has this feature but eero is meant to be more locked down for some reason. Appreciate your advice!

I've been picking up the Pro 5s for about $30 each on FB and Craigslist the past year or more. This is a good deal if you want to buy new and don't mind dual band. They're also great to split up and use between relatives if they only need one or two for their place. Set it up and never have to fix their wifi again.

If you need for just things like wireless devices like phones, Ring cameras, etc., this has worked well for me.

I have been running this now since July, 2020 (the J0100T1 Eero 5s being sold here). The last year the main router has been a Eero 6 for the gateway router and these 3 across house for mesh. It works.

No issues with TV streaming 50ft away through a couple of walls, and all of the phones and tablets work fine. I do have a hub and a few wired connections for like my PC going cable modem to Eero 6 to hub and my PS5, PCs, etc.

However, my son hates our setup. He is on 2nd floor and games, and does a lot of other stuff over wireless and constantly complains about speed.

If you just need a basic wifi setup, this is a no brainer for $90 IMO as I paid $170 2 1/2 years ago. If you need lots of speed and customized control, probably not for you.
