Unless your taxes are so complex that you need the few differences that turbotax offers, you are better off buying H&R block's software. half the cost, 95% the topics covered and much better support. Turbotax has gotten arrogant and treats their customers like S**T. I tried both last year and H&R block's experience was far superior.

You could also just send them the downloaded files electronically.....much easier than mailing a CD in my opinion. That's how kids do things these days, electronically. If you need help with that let me know.

I'm not being confrontational here, just curious: what's the best way for a normie like me to do my taxes? Of course I could hire an accountant but they'll do what Turbotax does for me and charge me way more and not really save me a ton of time as my taxes aren't all that complicated (but complicated enough that I wouldn't do them by hand). Thanks for any suggestions!

Credit karma is free, there's a decent amount of free ones out there. I compared credit karma to TurboTax for 2 years and they were pretty much the same results. I think one year credit karma gave me a bigger refund too cause it asked some questions that TurboTax didn't. Freetaxusa is also another good one.

Unless someone has a different link, Fidelity is $39 for Federal plus ANOTHER $39 for state.

Best way to save is to accumulate Amazon no rush delivery credits over the summer and holiday shopping season and apply them to a digital download when Amazon puts it on sale for the same discount as everyone else. Use No Rush for everything you get on Black Friday or Prime Days and it adds up pretty quick. Got mine for $26 that way...
