If I go in, I will spend minimum $100, so for $5 extra, I will save $95+. Super slick deal!
Sometimes it's hard to know if someone missed the joke or is just playing along badly.
I bought the "Hotel" set last week in-store. It was the last set they had in stock at $27.99. The box does say 18/10 and 18/10 is stamped on the forks and spoons. However, it is not stamped on the knives. Not sure if the knives not having 18/10 stamped on them is normal. I would consider this to be a fairly lightweight set. I definitely would not pay more than the $27 I paid for this set.

Not to be a thread crapper but on Gourmet Setting's own website, the same name set is listed as 18/0 instead of 18/10 Costco advertises.

See for yourself:

Any thoughts?

On my Costco app I see original price $31.99 before discount. Not $39.99

I'd follow the manufacturer specs as it would make more sense given the price

Yeah you're right - they do have 18/10 ones as well but neither of these are it. 25 year warranty covers certain things which "durability" isn't one of them which would be helped by the /10. I don't know how 18/0 cutlery would be since I've never had a set so if someone can chime in on real world experience that would be great!

Someone who has the set should put a magnet up to it. Or bring a magnet into the store. 18/10 shouldn't be magnetic while 18/0 is.

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think the Gourmet Settings site is a misprint and these are 18/10. Several other sites that have this are showing it as 18/10 as well. BUT... if you do a search you will find the actual packaging that these are in, and the package states 18/10.

If you go to the manufacturer's website, these two sets are made with 18/0 stainless instead of the higher quality 18/10. It appears the Costco description mistakenly labels this 18/10 stainless. https://www.gourmetsettings.com/f...ping-only/

I don't have any real world experience with this particular set, but I will say that I have garbage walmart sets that I have had for 17 years and they are still okay. I'd say about 75% washed by hand and about 25% in the dishwasher. People put way too much stock in overspending for silverware. I've had maybe 2 utensils rust and it was after putting in the dishwasher.

I bought the Melody set a few months ago when it was on sale in-store. We use it every day and I'm really happy with the purchase. The box labeled it as 18/10.

When Costco contracts with manufacturers, it's not uncommon for them to choose a model and have the manufacturers make various improvements to the item to improve quality for their warehouse version. It does still retain the same model name, but the Costco item can be different. So it's not unheard of that they might like the look and feel of an 18/0 set and ask the manufacturer to make it 18/10 for them.

I found this out a long time ago when I bought an Igloo cooler from Costco that I later found on clearance online at Target for a slightly lower price. I had already used the cooler, but I thought I would just buy the new one at Target and return it to Costco with the Costco receipt. Same brand, model name, etc. The cooler shows up, and Target's has plastic hinges and latches where Costco uses metal and various other small but meaningful improvements. Obviously, it went back to Target, and I was satisfied just keeping my Costco purchase at the price I paid.

This is the pure oppose of Walmart, who will often have manufacturers swap out metal for plastic parts, etc. They typically do change the model number -- instead of XXXXX, it becomes XXXXX-WM. But know that if you buy an item with "WM" in its model number, Walmart took the original product and had it custom-made to be crap.

Anyway, I would trust Costco here. And it's easy to return if things aren't what you expect.

For those not in the know- 18/10 flatware is the grade of metal you'll want. It's 18% chromium and 10% nickel, and the nickel is what makes it bend resistant and "substantial" feeling.

You'll see 18/8 flatware, which is "OK", but not as premium, and cheap 18/0 flatware which is what you'll see in cafeterias and diners.
