" Amazon Basics 256GB Ultra Fast USB 3.1 Flash Drive "

I wouldn't plug that into a stolen computer.

It'll get quite warm if you write a lot of data to it. If you'd like something cooler running, try the samsung bar model vs the fit. The bar sticks out a bit more, but its all aluminum and not just a little bit of metal. It curves up to a keychain loop. Same performance.

If you can do something that sticks out more, the Samsung bar isn't a lot longer, but is made of aluminum with a metal keychain loop. You could drive over that one.
I've got a couple of the Bars. I don't think they're aluminum. They feed too heavy and are slightly ferromagnetic (attracted by magnets, not magnetic themselves), so maybe a stainless steel. Also, I think aluminum might be too weak for the metal around the USB connector end.

This is one of the first usb drives that actually lived up to and even exceeded its speed claims. Even the ones that claim to have read speeds "up to" 130 MBs end up being 90 . This drive is as fast as many SSDs
Agree. I've been let down by so many drives. Sandisk small drives overheat and slow down to a crawl. Bought bunch of other known names and all of them can't hit the speed they claim.

I have 256GB of this one and it's my best USB drive.

If only this or similar mini flash drives came in a 512GB capacity. PNY makes a couple but they seem too flimsy to put on a keychain, which is what I need one for. My data & photos now exceed 256GB and I need the 512GB for portable backup and restoration when I'm on my laptop, and in case of fire or theft at home or when I'm traveling. Don't trust the cloud plus that's a ton of data to move via the intertubz, which isn't always available or fast enough. I figure in a year or so Samsung will come out with them and I'll buy one.

Btw the 256GB one is actually only $32.99, new and from Amazon:

SanDisk drives are the ones that run ridiculously hot. The Samsung drives I've had get warm like any other thumb drive, but aren't out of the ordinary. I've got the 64GB version of this drive and it's fine.

I'm not seeing that it is a high endurance drive. Does that only apply to SD cards? I'm looking for something to use in my Tesla which constantly records videos.

My only complaint is that two don't fit side by side in my nvidia shield tv pro. Otherwise solid drives
thats more on nvidia for positioning the ports the way they did. but i got a usb bank, with external power and it's future proofed now.

these drives real world performance is great. extremely reliable and dont run too hot. fast enough for live os too.

the bars seem to get way hotter, but maybe thats just the fit plastic housing insulating any perception of hot.

it's not for longer term storage, like 5 to 10 years
