I know everyone talks about the crucial MX500, but read on Reddit that it hasn't been as reliable lately. Asked a fellow SDer for a budget and reliable drive for a PC and was told to look into WD and inland drives.

This WD Blue drive has been the lowest ever on Amazon according to camelcamelcamel at 119.99 + tax. The previous lowest price was last week at 134.99 + tax.

Have bought a few hundred MX500 2TB's over the last year+ and no issues yet, BUT... they never came with the latest firmware, so we always updated the firmware first before putting them into service. They were all several revisions behind. This was when buying direct from Crucial, as well as from Amazon and Best Buy.

I purchased and installed the Crucial MX500 1TB and WD 1TB WD Blue 3D NAND last year. Both had great reviews at the time, started out fine, and were competitively priced for good SATA SSDs with DRAM (especially on sale). Both benchmarked pretty well and were fine for every day usage so I'd be reasonably confident about using either one if you only have SATA slots open on a machine and need storage. Write/transfer speeds on the WD Blue 3D NAND are about as good as possible on SATA as I've transferred games to and from the drive since I have an ATX desktop with other SATA and NVMe drives.

I would note, I do seem to have one of the Crucial MX500 lemons from the bad batch. It's installed in my laptop and seems to have corrupted some of the OS files a month ago so I need to get around to troubleshooting that or RMA. Rather disappointing since I rarely use my laptop so it seems to be a very early failure. Even the garbage OEM SSD (~2014) that came with my laptop was running fine previously. I assume the issues were addressed since I don't see widespread complaints still.
